Share your research at the Salisbury Science Café

Posted in: Uncategorised

Do you want to share your work over a cup of coffee or glass of wine? Do you want to discuss your research area with an interested audience from a variety of backgrounds? Then the Salisbury Science Café is for you!

The Salisbury Café Scientifique (Science Café) are looking for speakers to give talks, demonstrations, quizzes, plays, comedy routines or any other kind of presentation about their research.

This is an opportunity to share your research over a drink and have an engaged discussion with an interested group of people from various backgrounds and with varying levels of science knowledge. Science Cafe's can be a great way to help you think differently about your research, come up with new research questions and see the difference that your work makes to people's everyday lives.

The audience for the Salisbury Science Café varies from 40-100 friendly, engaged and enthusiastic people with a mix of ages from A level students to older people. Topics include science, engineering, maths, sport science and more.

Events are held at the Salisbury Rugby Club, with doors opening at 19:00, for a talk start time of 19:30. The evening usually consists of a 50 to 60 minute lecture, followed by questions, clearing the room for 21:00. However the café organisers are interested in any kind of presentation from science demo to theatre. Events start in February 2024.

Events are free to attend for the public and the Science Café can cover travel expenses for speakers.

If you're interested in taking part please get in touch with us at public-engagement@bath.ac.uk and we can support you to prepare your talk and put you in touch with the organisers.

Rob Cooper is a Public Engagement Officer at the University of Bath.
