Soiled Meat
Sorry for the delay, everyone. I do have all orders in so we're not waiting on any players, this one's on me. I'm having to work a little extra this week to make up for the time I'll be at a doctor's appointment later this week; and it's cut into my update time a little bit.

The update is coming, hopefully tonight.

For future reference: please don't send orders as pictures if you can at-all avoid it. I can deal with pictures but I can't copy them into notepad for quick reference which slows me down a hair.

I'm not calling anyone out so nobody should feel in any way bad if they've done this; this is just a general 'plaintext works best.' :shobon:

Dragon’s Teeth 3-7

Sweat rolled down Rampart’s back as the fusion reactor somewhere beneath her command couch kicked up another octave. She tried to push her Blackjack as hard as she could, to keep close to the slowly retreating Talos and keep it from opening up the range. If it made enough space to get a good bead on her, she’d be all but finished—but the fear that its lighter-weight ally was creeping up behind her was almost panic inducing. Light ‘Mechs didn’t have much firepower, but it never took much to punch through the rear armor of most BattleMechs.

A wave of heat vented into her cockpit as she pressed the largest red button on her control stick, firing every weapon she had into the Talos before she passed it. Her lasers scored the Talos’s surface a moment before the plasma streamers from her flamers briefly obscured the enemy ‘Mech from view. She felt her Blackjack protest beneath her, and could see the heat shimmer from its frontal armor despite Frigid’s balmy sub-freezing temperatures.

The Talos turned, its autocannon tracking her; new missiles poking their warheads from its SRM-6 as Rampart walked. A single shot and it would be through her armor. One stray missile and the entire left side of her ‘Mech’s torso would probably cave in, or tear away under the weight of her own left arm. She imagined she could hear the typical alert chime as it finished reloading.

And then Prodigal’s Mongoose slipped in behind it, moving at what felt like a casual pace but which Rampart suspected was probably adrenaline-induced time dilation. Prodigal’s lasers flashed, and Rampart imagined she could actually see the microsecond beams. The Talos’s arm shifted slightly as one of Prodigal’s lasers carved into its ejector port and a shell the size of Rampart’s head flashed past overhead, missing so closely she probably could’ve touched it. The Talos’s SRMs ignited—and went nowhere, as Prodigal’s lasers had melted all six into the launcher.

The Talos keeled over almost comically, spinning on its heels as it tried to track her Blackjack. That was a sure sign of gyro damage, the ‘mech had just moved farther than the pilot expected. It didn’t hit the ground particularly hard—but apparently hard enough to pop the armed SRMs out of the back of its damaged missile launcher. They detonated in a flash that was almost instantly lost to the much larger secondary detonation of the Talos’s ammo bin. The remains of its torso skittered through the trees like a giant mangled insect fleeing a child’s magnifying glass.

“Well,” Rampart breathed. “That’s two for two. I guess we know their weakness.”

Those back attacks are lethal! That's Talos #2 (or 1 I guess) down thanks to a lucky ammo explosion, and the poor Falcon losing its Gyro to out Hoplite. Speaking of the Falcon, does that quality as a captive for us? Or do we need to take one of the two remaining mechs alive for it to count?

Either way, I'm ready to continue my role as the madlad who's shooting people's spines out. I can get behind the enemy Battlemaster if I sprint, landing in either 1924 or 1824. I really, really want to get directly behind it for that sweet back attack, but I confess I'm slightly worried about it turning around and punching my head off or something. I don't really have a plan beyond that, but getting behind them would make it really easy for me to continue nipping at their heels for the rest of the fight.

Oh and uh, advice for our Blackjack. You're in a really bad spot, please take cover as best you can

So I think if I post up on 1612, I should be shooting from a high enough position to pass over the trees in 1717/18? Unless the enemy battlemaster is actually hiding out in the trees themselves?

They'd have to take it out without structural damage, which is tricky since BattleMasters have a certain negative quirk.

The only suggestion I have when it comes to capturing the Battle Master is that maybe I could try and knock it down with a kick to the back? I guess we only need the cockpit intact, but it seems like it would be pretty easy to accidentally land a shot to the head at one point or another, and I'm not sure if blowing up the center torso would leave that intact or not

Doesn't know the impossible.

the colonel has lived a long and presumably full life, so we should accept his apparent battle strategy of "aggressively facing away from the only surviving enemies on the map" for what it is and take this opportunity to start marking plans for the funeral. do you think he will have wanted lilacs?

Yeah, he definitely has a death wish. The players should probably assume that particular secondary objective is a wash.

Now the question is: the hunchback or the battlemaster first?

I would also like to request a LOS check. Does the hunchback have one forest in the way, or two, shooting at 1815? It looks like it clips 1816 but I can't really tell.

Yeah they are! Great job!

The good news is both those hexes are outside the hunchback's arc! it can't bring the big gun to bear there. The bad news is the battlemaster's ppc's are ER versions with no minimum and the short goes out to seven. The good news is, they're arm mounted, so they won't be able to punch and shoot you. The bad news is you're probably taking at least one to the (preferrably not) face if you go there, maybe get another +1 from secondary target, and maybe it takes aim at the sentinel instead of you.

I think i agree going for a speedy close is probaly the way to go, though.

Its hard to tell with the noise on the map, but the hunchback's on height 1 hills right now. 1210 has clear shots at both of them. Range 16 by my eye, but the hunch has no defensive move mod right now either.

its not often you get to take a ranging shot like that on 7's.
I don't think they can maneuver out of it, either, in a way you can't fix with a step to 1211. That hill to your left has a pretty wide range field of fire.

I think I pretty much know my move, and I'm gonna try to get their attention(both), and give you room to work. 1815 gets me at medium/long range from the big guns, and thats all i can ask right now.

Dragon’s Teeth 3-8

Prodigal tried not to think too hard about what she was doing—and not just because she was breaching doctrine. Standard procedure for SLDF light Mechwarriors confronted with an enemy assault ‘Mech was to withdraw and call in heavier support. Some heavyweight missile boats like the venerable Archer may have been valid targets for a light lance but no assault ‘Mech was considered safe for any lance with an average weight under 70 tons to engage. The firepower difference was just too telling, especially since even a glancing blow could cripple her 25 ton Mongoose.

That she was plowing through a half-meter of powdered snow straight towards not only an assault ‘Mech, but one of the SLDF’s premier battle wagons would’ve had her academy instructors screaming at her and forcibly shutting down the simulator pods—yet the only sound ringing in her ears was her own heartbeat. At least it seemed reasonably fixated on the pirate Franken-Banshee it and the Hunchback were slowly butchering. Nor was its armor pristine, although getting a close look at its frontal plates was a bit disheartening. It bore the scars of several PPC hits and at least one missile salvo, but the dull gleam of unbreached ceramet still shone behind the scars.

Even if the whole lance concentrated their fire, they weren’t getting through that front armor before the BattleMaster finished at least one of them. That meant the thinner rear armor was the only way to go—something she was grateful to see Ironhead had realized—even if the gaping rents in Ironhead’s armor were disheartening. The BattleMaster’s pilot was too skilled to just ignore a flanker.

She dropped its crosshairs onto a back already pockmarked with autocannon shell craters, choosing the largest cluster of dents and divots she could find and hovering there. Even the rear armor didn’t show any signs of a true breach; but she was certain it had been weakened. Ironhead was too skilled with that light autocannon to have bounced every shell. The white dot at the center of her targeting reticle pulsed a lock, and she fired—then breathed a sigh of relief as her large laser melted a hole the size of an strong infantryman in full field kit in the BattleMaster’s back.

It didn’t explode spectacularly the way the Talos had. It barely even flinched, despite the way her laser carved into the BattleMaster’s structural supports. Instead, it swung, nearly backhanding her with the barrel of its PPC—a barrel she found herself staring down a moment later. The sudden but intensely angry glow of the PPC’s charging coils gave her a split-second of real warning; and Prodigal twisted in place. Rather than shooting her Mongoose square in the face, the BattleMaster caught her in the left shoulder and knocked the Mongoose reeling. Her status board caught fire, at first figuratively but then literally as the PPC’s charged particle beam carved through the Mongoose’s structural supports and shorted diagnostic sensors. A quick puff of the cockpit’s automatic fire suppression systems extinguished the blown monitor; but still left her in the dark about how badly she’d been hit. She tentatively swung her ‘Mech’s left arm back as counterweight for a kick, and the noise alone told her it was bad. Whatever structure she had left was strained nearly to the breaking point just trying to keep that arm attached.

“Just wait, you bastard,” Prodigal murmured. “We’ll get you yet.”

Oh, it's all happening now!

Colonel's lost both PPCs, so he doesn't have any good weapons left.

Rampart needs to shoot the Battlemaster. That right torso is looking weak. A few more hits and it'll be kaboom time!

I was gonna start working on the hunchback!

However, I just noticed I can get to 1921 and put everything in the battlemaster's back. Maybe we go for a forced shutdown from heat to end things off? Hopefully aided by an engine crit or two?

But, we might want to finish the hunchie first, in case they decide to do 'no survivors' and turn on the battlemaster rather than let it get captured.

I knew I was playing with fire, so I can’t really complain about being burned. But also owwwww!

As I’ve now joined the pixel health club, I would prefer to stay out of the line of Fire this turn. Shooting the Hunchback in the back would mean I would have to start working on an entirely new angle of attack, so my best bet is to continue shooting the Battlemaster with you fine folks.

Not sure where would be safest for me, I was considering the woods in 2221 or 2322, I think the Hunchie could turn and shoot me from there, but I’d be out of it’s ideal range at least.
