Amputee women play soccer and pose for photos
World Amputee Football Federation encourages all countries to join us in celebrating International Women's Day 2023, from 4-12 March.

On 8 March all around the world Women's Day is celebrated. We want to give that day media exposure to all amputee female players, in every part of the world.

In the past on that day few events to celebrate IWD were organized:

  • 2020: International friendly womens match between Dominican Republic and Haiti
  • 2021: Friendly match organized by the Women Amputee Football Association of Cameroon in Doula
  • 2022: Friendly demonstration game in Makeni, Sierra Leone with amputee women from Cameroon, Liberia, Senegal and Sierra Leone

If you are a female amputee, play football and are organizing a friendly game, special practice session or any kind of activity to celebrate, let us know about it. Afterwards please send us the details, video and photo footage from the event. We will spread the news about female amputee football in media channels around the world.

Planning an International Women's Day activity

Based on the number of female amputees plan a program that can stand alone or be integrate into an existing IWD event. It could include an introduction (history and rules of amputee football, history of amputee soccer in your country, interviews of local amputee football association leadership and female amputee participants) followed by a demonstration of amputee football such as: agility exercises on crutches, training drills with cones, and/or friendly game.

The program can conclude with a meet and greet with the audience.

Contact private and public sectors about plans for International Women’s Day in your country.

Request IWD organizers to integrate your women amputee football demonstration into their program.

If there is no opportunity to participate in an organized IWD event, contact other sports entities like the national women football team to obtain their support and participation in your IWD program.
