IBA Executive Director arrives in Ukraine for a week of high-level meetings focused on expanding IBA’s support

The International Bar Association’s (IBA) Executive Director, Dr Mark Ellis, has arrived in Ukraine for a week of high-level meetings as a show of the IBA’s continued engagement with Ukraine’s legal profession and continuing humanitarian support for those affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
IBA President, Sternford Moyo, commented: ‘The IBA has been steadfast in its support for Ukraine since Russia’s incursion some six months ago on 24 February. Through the IBA’s Executive Director, Mark Ellis, I aim to convey, and reinforce, the Association’s position and to explore what further assistance can potentially be provided by the IBA as well as what new alliances can be created.’
Since condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the IBA has provided fiscal, humanitarian and technical support. Included in the actions undertaken are the immediate setting aside of USD 100K to support humanitarian initiatives, and partnering with legal organisations to deliver training for lawyers on cases taking place before courts in relation to the war. With a focus on future international trials, a Ukrainian language version of the IBA-founded eyeWitness to Atrocities app (www.eyewitness.global/Ukraine-resources-hub) has been created to capture potential evidence.
