NVIDIA officially launches its new SUPER series
Three new GeForce desktop cards.
NVIDIA Founders Edition cards for some of the latest GPUs have been sent out to reviewers. The RTX 4070 SUPER and 4080 SUPER are among these models set to receive this reference edition.
In terms of pricing, the RTX 4080 SUPER is slated to be priced at $999, which is $200 less than the launch price of the non-SUPER version, RTX 4080. NVIDIA appears to be confirming earlier speculations that the RTX 4080S and 4070TiS will replace the current models in their product lineup. The updated chart no longer includes references to these specific SKUs.
The RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is set to take the place of the RTX 4070 Ti non-SUPER at a price point of $799. Simultaneously, the RTX 4070 SUPER is expected to be priced at $599 in retail, while the existing non-SUPER model is officially confirmed to have a revised MSRP of $549.
As we saw before, NVIDIA is focusing on the performance of their shaders, ray tracing, and tensor cores instead of their CUDA core specs. Nevertheless, NVIDIA RTX 4080 SUPER is to feature 10240 CUDA cores, 16GB GDDR6X memory (23 Gbps) and TGP (Total Graphics Power) of 320W. But NVIDIA claims that this model will actually require only around 246W when playing and 15W when idle. NVIDIA marketing claims that this card offers “4K Full RT Gaming and Super-Fast Gen AI” but also 2x the performance of RTX 3080Ti (more on that in the paragraph below). The RTX 4080 SUPER will launch on January 31.
The RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is to feature 8448 CUDA cores and 16GB GDDR6X memory. While it ships with a TGP of 285W, the average gaming power is estimated at 226W and 12W when the card is idle. The memory upgrade is undoubtedly the most noteworthy feature of this SKU. NVIDIA claims that RTX 4070 Ti SUPER will offer “2.5x the performance of RTX 3070 Ti”, but one should not be deceived, as this data is referring to DLSS Frame Generation support in some titles. Officially, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER launches on January 24th.
A 4K Monster: The GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
The GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER powers fully ray-traced games in 4K resolution. At 1.4x faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti without DLSS Frame Generation, the RTX 4080 SUPER delivers blistering performance with traditional rasterization. With 836 AI TOPS, DLSS Frame Generation delivers an extra performance boost, making the RTX 4080 SUPER twice as fast as the RTX 3080 Ti. The RTX 4080 SUPER features more cores and faster memory for a performance edge. It will be available starting Jan. 31 from $999.Precision Gaming: The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER
The RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is the ideal GPU for maxing out games at super-high frame rates at 1440p, and up to 4K. Compared to the RTX 4070 Ti, it has more cores, an increased frame buffer to 16GB, and a 256-bit memory bus, providing a significant memory bandwidth increase to 672 GB/sec. It is 1.6x faster than a RTX 3070 Ti and 2.5x with DLSS 3. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER will be available starting Jan. 24 at $799.Perfectly Balanced: The GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER
The RTX 4070 SUPER arrives with 20% more cores than the RTX 4070, making it faster than an RTX 3090 at a fraction of the power. With DLSS 3, its lead stretches to 1.5x faster. It will be available starting Jan. 17 at $599.
The RTX 4070 SUPER, representing the most substantial improvement in the series, is poised to deliver a 20% increase in cores compared to its non-SUPER counterpart. The CUDA core specifications have now been increased to 7680 cores. Contrary to certain rumors, this model is confirmed to feature 48MB of L2 cache, not 48MB as some have speculated. This aligns with the L2 cache size of the non-SUPER variant. On average, this card is expected to consume 200W during gaming sessions and 11W when in an idle state. NVIDIA asserts that the RTX 4070 SUPER will surpass the performance of the RTX 3090. The official launch date for this model is scheduled for January 17th.
One more thing, the RTX 40 SUPER Founders Edition design is indeed black.
