Description

Embark on an exhilarating journey through history with our captivating escape room-style team building activity, meticulously designed to reinforce the pivotal events leading up to and following America's momentous declaration of independence. Engage your students in an immersive and interactive experience that transforms learning into an adventure filled with excitement.
In this educational resource, we have divided the events preceding America's independence from Britain into three captivating "chapters." Students will embark on a thrilling exploration, unraveling the mysteries of each chapter while striving to crack the enigmatic code that unlocks the path to the next installment. Unlocking the mystery code requires deciphering puzzles cleverly integrated within each information page. Once all six digits have been successfully collected, students can confirm their findings with their teacher. Will your children successfully navigate their way through all three chapters?

The beauty of this escape room activity lies in its simplicity and versatility. It can be seamlessly implemented without the need for any technological assistance, allowing for a smooth and hassle-free experience. No modifications or edits to the materials are necessary; simply print and immerse your students in a transformative educational adventure that will captivate their imaginations and deepen their understanding of America's remarkable history.

• Print out the information sheets and display around the room. You may want to spread out the sheets to make it easier for a larger number of children to engage in the activity. Pupils do not need to read the information sheets in order to complete the activity.
• Print out the pupil answer sheet. Students may complete the activity on their own or in small groups.
• Share slides 4 and 5 with the pupils to introduce the activity.
• Once children have completed each chapter, slide 7 can be used to finish the lesson.

Guidance for pupils:

1. Start by reading and exploring everything about each of the blue information sheets. These share the events from chapter 1 – Taxes and Tea.
2. Using the information sheet and any clues on your answer sheet, try to work out the missing digit of the mystery code. You will find one digit on each sheet.
3. Once you have all six digits, check with the teacher to see if you have correctly found the mystery code.
4. If you have, then the teacher will allow you to move onto the next chapter.
