COVINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) - A local business is packing carts full of gifts to make sure kids don’t go without this Christmas.

Landlord Santa is a seasonal tradition with a twist. The event, hosted by Cincy Area Properties, is in its’ 10th year and looking to support a record number of children.

“We have a lot of people that are lower income that we deal with in our business where they're meeting their obligations, they're meeting their bills, they're feeding their children but they just don't have the money for extras and so we thought it would be nice if we could take some selective, deserving families and kind of bridge that gap with coats, hats, toys and things like that,” CAP real estate owner, Jesse Brewer, said.

The event typically selects children living in CAP homes and takes them on a shopping spree. Each child gets $250 to first buy winter coats and then toys. Brewer says they have funding for 68 children but are reaching to cover 100 for the 10th anniversary of the event. This will cover the children identified as having a need in CAP homes and additional children in area schools.

“We've had kids cry. I've had kids send me thank you letters, which I've kept in a safe,” Brewer said. “I've had kids tell me that you know we've saved Christmas for them, like their parents would tell us things like that, we saved Christmas for them. It's very emotional. It's a very emotional night to say the least."

Brewer says they receive donations from community partners but could use additional donations to reach their goal.

You can donate by bringing a check for the Brewer Foundation for Civic Engagement to CAP Real Estate on Pike Street in Covington. You can also visit any area Forcht Bank and tell them you’re donating to “Landlord Santa.” Or just click here to donate online.

The event is scheduled for December 13th at the Walmart in Fort Wright. Brewer hopes to have the funding secured by Black Friday.
