Pi Day 2021 deals: Celebrate daylight savings time change with $3.14 pizza specials at 7-Eleven, Blaze, more

Pi Day might make losing an hour for the daylight saving time change a little easier – or at least more appetizing.

Sunday, March 14 is both the annual ritual of changing clocks and the yearly celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi), which is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. The trillion-digit ratio is rounded to 3.14.

But you don't have to be a math whiz to be acutely aware that Pi Day – not to be confused with National Pie Day held in January – equals deals and discounts on circular food like pizza, pastry and pot pies.

Albert Einstein was born on Pi Day, and noted astrophysicist Stephen Hawking died on the made-up holiday in 2018.

Last year’s food holiday was slightly curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic, which happened as parts of the country were locking down.

While some food holidays have been canceled or changed because of COVID, Pi Day will still go on. 

IHOP canceled its National Pancake Day promotion but flipped the annual event into a monthlong promotion. To get free pancakes throughout the month of April, you need to be part of the MyHOP email club by March 31. Learn more here.

Also canceled are the first day of spring freebies for March 20, including Dairy Queen’s Free Cone Day and Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard annual giveaway.

Pi Day pizza deals

Here are the deals available at participating locations Sunday, unless otherwise noted. To be on the safe side, always check with your closest location before heading out. Also, some will require you to have a restaurant's app or be signed up for emails. (Learn how to sign up for loyalty programs to save on pizza throughout the year below.)

7-Eleven: Get a large pizza for $3.14 in-store Sunday through the 7Rewards loyalty program in the 7-Eleven app or via delivery with the 7NOW app.

Bertucci's: Purchase an entree, pasta or pizza and get a small cheese pizza for $3.14 for dine-in or takeout. Cannot be combined with other offers, discounts, deals or promotions and there's a limit of one offer per table or transaction.

BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse: Get half-off large pizzas for takeout and delivery Sunday with promo code HALFOFF when ordered through the BJ’s website or mobile app.

Blaze Pizza: The annual Pi Day promotion runs for a whole month for current app users. From Sunday through April 12, get an 11-inch pizza for $3.14. App users had to sign up for Blaze Rewards before Sunday to receive the reward, according to a news release.

Domino's: With the mix and match special, choose two menu items for $5.99 each. Items include medium two-topping pizzas, Specialty Chicken, eight-piece chicken wings or boneless wings, Stuffed Cheesy Breads, bread twists, sandwiches, pastas, salads or the Marbled Cookie Brownie.

Donatos Pizza: Love Rewards members who joined prior to Sunday, get $3.14 off a large signature pizza Sunday. To join, text LOVE to 88188.

Little Caesars: Pretzel Crust pizza is back through March 28 and it's $6 from 4 to 8 p.m. 

Marco's Pizza: Buy one large pizza and get another for $3.14 Sunday with code PIDAY.

Mountain Mike's Pizza: Get $3.14 off any large pizza Sunday with promo code PIZZA314.

Panera Bread: Through March 31, save $5 on online orders of $20 or more with code WINTERBREAK.

Papa John’s: Get a large one-topping pizza with the Epic Stuffed Crust for $12 with the promo code STUFFED.

Pieology: Current Pie Life Rewards members get $3.14 off a purchase of $10 or more Sunday.  

Pilot and Flying J Travel Centers: Download or open the Pilot Flying J app through Sunday to get a 16-inch pizza for $9.99.

Pizza Hut: Starting Sunday, Pizza Hut is bringing back the $10 Tastemaker deal for a limited time. The $10 Tastemaker includes a large pizza and any three toppings for pickup or delivery.

Save A Lot: Get Mantia’s ready-made frozen pizzas for $3.14 Sunday.

Uno Pizzeria & Grill: Individual Thin Crust cheese pizzas are $3.14 at participating restaurants and online. Participating locations are listed at www.unos.com/pi-day.

Your Pie: Rewards members get $3.14 off any 10-inch pizza Sunday through March 16 in-store and online. Excludes online special pizzas and only can be redeemed with the Your Pie Rewards app.

Biggby Coffee: Get a 16-ounce Apple Pie Latte for $3.14 Sunday. 

Boston Market: Individual pot pies are $3.14 each Sunday while supplies last at participating locations, according to an email the chain sent out Sunday.

Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen: Get the chain's Homemade Chicken Pot Pie for $9.99.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store: For a limited time, the chain has a Buttermilk Pie with a custard filling, served with whipped cream and strawberries for $3.99. Cracker Barrel also has a Chicken Pot Pie for $5.99.

Dunkin': DD Perks rewards members earn three-times more points on handcrafted espresso drinks Sunday because of the time change.

Jamba: Now through Sunday, Jamba will be offering My Jamba Rewards members a deal. Buy one large smoothie and get one small smoothie free, including the new Electric Berry Lemonade smoothie, which is available for a limited time only.

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery: Get a free slice of pie with any entrée purchase at the Perkins To Go site Sunday with promo code FREESLICE.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop: Perks members, check your accounts. The chain is giving 314 loyalty members free Chicken Pot Pie Soup through Sunday. Potbelly will randomly pick 314 members and put the freebie in their accounts. 

Publix: Select small pies are $3.14 for the current week's sale, which ends Tuesday or Wednesday depending on location.

Sprouts Farmers Market: Get an eight-inch apple or apple vegan pies for $3.14 Sunday. 

Tim Hortons: To help adapt to Daylight Savings, which starts Sunday, Tims Rewards members can get a free breakfast sandwich Sunday through March 21 from 5 to 7 a.m. On digital orders only. 

Village Inn: Get $2 off any pie Sunday. No coupon required for discount, just ask the cashier, the chain said in a Facebook post. Cheesecake and carrot cake excluded.

White Castle: Get a free dessert stick Sunday with any purchase and a digital coupon that will be shared on the chain's social media accounts. 

Whole Foods Market: Get $3.14 off large pies in-store on Sunday.
