Product Description

Designed from the ground up by PRS Guitars in Stevensville, MD, the Horsemeat Transparent Overdrive takes its inspiration from the legendary gold "mythical" overdrive pedal. Using Germanium diodes, the Horsemeat is designed to enhance your guitar tone without colouring it, producing a satisfying throatiness that is rich in harmonics. By boosting both low and high-end frequencies, the Horsemeat provides more headroom than other overdrive pedals. It can be used as a clean boost for giving your solos a much needed lift, a straight overdrive for crunchy rhythm tones, or to push your already overdriven amp further into saturation.

Accolades

“Horsemeat sounds a lot like a good amp.” – Paul Reed Smith

“I’ve tried just about everyone’s take on the mythical gold pedal that costs more than my first car did, but the Horsemeat is the first to really live up
to the hype. Silky smooth overdrive with a very tweakable EQ section. It’s magical!”
- Ben Eller

“Horsemeat is a game changer. It adds exactly the right textures I want from an overdrive pedal without taking away the tone and clarity I want to get out of my instrument and my fingers.” - Eric Krasno

More versatile than a Klon style, with a lovely tone that manages to be both warm and clear. Still experimenting with it, but sounds good at any setting.

I'm a collector of tweed-tone pedals - pedals that chase the tone of Fender's 5e3 amp circuit and other similar amps of the era. I wasn't expecting the Horsemeat to belong to this category when I bought it. Imho, the Horsemeat is the best tweed-tone pedal currently in production. It's even better than the legendary Sweet Honey Overdrive: more clarity, more saturation, and more versatile too. And it just works with every kind of guitar I've thrown at it: Strat, Tele, Les Paul, and various PRS models. It's not a set-and-forget pedal like the SHOD. It's more like studio-gear-in-a-box: you'll want to tweak the settings whenever you change pickup selector or guitar. Not because it sounds bad, but because the powerful EQ and voice controls really let you fine-tune the tone. With respect to PRS, it isn't a Klon-killer. It can't do the classic Klon clean boost role. It simply doesn't have the mids-lift that a Klon has. It does sound great sat behind a Klon or klone pedal though! My only complaint is that the pedal's expensive for a single-channel drive pedal. I hope PRS find a way to bring the price down in the future, so that more people can afford one.
