Report: Columbus among U.S. cities with fastest-rising average rent prices

Columbus is one of many U.S. cities being hit hard by rising rent costs.

In fact, new data shows Columbus' 17-percent increase is the fourth-largest in the country. Cleveland is right behind at 16 percent.

Those increases were reported by Zumper in its monthly rent report, which measured variances from February 2023 to February 2024.

The average rent price for a one-bedroom apartment in Columbus is $1,130, according to Zumper. Syracuse, N.Y., experienced the largest year-to-year increase, at 22 percent. The average one-bedroom price there is $1,050, the Zumper report indicated.

Rent prices in New York remain far higher than anywhere else in the country. The average one-bedroom apartment goes for $4,200 there.

The Zumper report showed dips in a few cities in average rent prices for one-bedroom apartments. Winston-Salem, N.C., dropped by 19 percent, and Greensboro, N.C., fell by 18 percent. The average rent price in Winston Salem is $850 for a one-bedroom apartment, according to Zumper.
