Jody Cundy CBE is a World and Paralympic Champion who first began his pro athlete career in swimming before moving to cycling but this week Jody Cundy's amputation has been thrown into focus as he has battled to get back to dancing behind the scenes after going to hospital.

He has won eight Gold, one Silver and three Bronze medals at a record-breaking seven Summer Paralympics. He also counts 23 World Championships titles under his belt (20 in cycling and three in swimming), including a win at the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow this week.

Cundy was awarded an MBE for his services to disability sport, which was later upgraded to an OBE for his services to swimming and cycling. In 2022, he received a CBE for services to cycling.

The star is appearing on BBC’s hit show Strictly Come Dance this year. He is joined by the likes of actress Amanda Abbington and theatre performer Layton Williams. His pro partner for this series is 2022 pro winner Jowita Przystal, who last year took home the glitterball trophy while dancing with Hamza Yassin.

Speaking of joining the Strictly line-up, Cundy CBE said: "[I am] excited to be welcomed into the Strictly family and throw myself head first into the world of ballroom dancing.

"So far away from what I'm used to, but I'm looking forward to the challenge and pushing myself way out of my comfort zone, especially as I'm always last onto the dance floor. Can't wait to get stuck in, bring on the glitter and sequins!"

Jody has lived an active life with the help of a prosthetic leg. He was born with a deformed right foot which was amputated at the age of three.

Despite this, Jody has never allowed his apparent setback to limit his ambitions - by the age of 10, he was racing for King's Lynn swimming club and six years later made his debut as an international swimmer, said the Express.

Jody says Strictly Come Dancing is his most daunting competition to date and he hopes his appearance will inspire others to get out of their comfort zone.

Unfortunately, Jody has run into some problems on Strictly.

On Thursday, Jody on Strictly: It Takes Two that he had run into problems with his leg behind the scenes.

He ended up having to go to hospital to treat an infection in his leg which meant he missed two days of training.

Jowita Przystal, his pro partner, issued a message to fans on Instagram but as of Friday, Janette Manrara was still unable to confirm if Jody and Jowita would definitely be able to dance.

On Friday it was revealed that the pair had been able to dance in training, but Jeanette stopped short of confirming that the pair will definitely dance.

The infection seemed to have been caused by Jody's prosthetic rubbing on his stump during training.

Is Jody Cundy married?

When it comes to Jody’s love life he prefers to keep it away from the spotlight but what we do know is that he is in a long term relationship with partner Lucy Bowles.

In 2022 he announced that they got engaged. Announcing the news, he took to Instagram and said: ''2022 is done and dusted, I got engaged to my amazing fiancée @lulubo1982 in New York.''

Aside from this information, not much else has been made public about Lucy but the sports star does occasionally share sweet snaps alongside his partner.
