Ever since I can remember, I have
struggled with feeling not good
enough. Always being afraid to step
out to do the things I knew God was
calling me to do held me back on a
lot of opportunities. Even when I did
step out, I would hear the whispers
of doubt trying to pull me back into a
place of fear. The voices telling me I
wasn’t smart enough or talented
enough were so incredibly loud. It
was almost impossible for me to
ignore them. I became depressed
and wanted to give up. I felt like it
was a mountain that was impossible
to climb and even more impossible
to go around. I questioned if it was a
mountain that I was even meant to
climb yet I kept climbing.
By the time I reached adulthood, the
years of absorbing all the hurtful
words that told me I wasn’t good
enough finally took a toll on me. I
was emotionally, physically and
spiritually exhausted. I found myself
sitting on the kitchen floor crying
out to the Lord. I knew . I couldn’t go
on like that any longer.
A still small voice told me that I was
fearfully and wonderfully made by
an amazingly powerful God. A God
who knew everything I was capable
of accomplishing because He was
the One who created me.
At that moment I realized it was
true, I wasn’t good enough but He
was. I had to stop believing those
voices telling me I wasn’t good
enough and cast them down. They
caused me to lose focus and forget
what God says about Himself. He is
the Great I Am (Exodus3:14). He is
our Creator (Genesis 1:27). He is
mighty and powerful. His wisdom is
limitless (Psalm147:5). He said that
in our weakness, He is strong (2
Corinthians 12:9-10).
If you feel plagued by voices telling
you that you’re not good enough. If
you feel like being good enough is a
mountain you can’t climb, remember
it’s not a mountain meant for you to
climb. In ourselves, it is impossible
but with God nothing is impossible
(Matthew 19:26). He has already
claimed this victory
“With man this is
impossible, but
with God all things
are possible.”

Then God said, "Now let's make humans[a] who will be like us.[b] They will rule over all the fish
in the sea and the birds in the air. They will rule over all the large animals and all
the little things that crawl on the earth.”
God has made you in His image, which means that you have His character and exhibit His
qualities. You were made in His likeness — to function like Him. Not understanding this,
many have placed a significant limitation on themselves and have failed to realize what they
have inside of them. You are created in God's likeness with the ability to function like Him,
and you must understand how He operates. When you do not behave like God, you are
malfunctioning. You must study how God works to know how you are to function
successfully.
God created you to have dominion, rule, manage resources, control, govern, and lead.
Leadership in God's mind is not about ruling people but about resources. Have you
discovered what you are capable of doing? Are you liming yourself because of your lack of
understanding of how God wants you to function? Like any invention, you need to take a look
at the manual that comes with the product. How many gadgets do you have that you have
failed to read the directions on and do not have total usage because you tried to figure it out
independently?
Men On A Mission would like to remind you to go to the Manual and study it yourself. The
Word of God — The Bible has what you need. Study it consistently to unfold your full
potential and how to fulfill the dreams God has placed inside of you. Don't hesitate or waste
time trying to decide how it can benefit you. Understand that God made you in His image
and His likeness. The time to learn How God functions is now — Read The Manual!

NYIA GEORGE in 2020 shared . . .
One of my many life goals is to
achieve happiness. To some, this
nine-lettered word is simplistic and
easy to come by. It hasn't been easy
to come by from my personal
experience, especially now during a
global pandemic. And if we're
brutally honest, I still haven't found
it, but I dream about it every day.
Happiness to me is rare and pure in
its most authentic form. It's more
than a feeling or an expression; it's
a consistent lifestyle, state of mind,
or movement. To achieve this goal, I
must carry the traits of persistence,
motivation, and consistency.
To achieve this life goal, I aspire to
become a successful entrepreneur,
world traveler, artist, and writer.
Art and writing are two different
forms of art that express things
that my voice or mannerisms never
could, or something I want to say
but I do not know-how.
I rely on a pen and paper or a
paintbrush and an aisle to share my
inner thoughts and feelings to
inspire and open others' minds. In
the future, I hope to see my
thoughts spread across magazine
spreads, advertisements, art
galleries, or films. I can't see the
end, and I know tomorrow is
uncertain, but I know my dreams
and goals will challenge me to
reflect, change my actions, be my
very best self, and fulfill God's plan
for me. I should receive this
scholarship because I am a hardworking
individual who is always
willing to lend a helping hand.
Receiving this scholarship would
allow me to afford my college
degree financially, move into my
specific career path, and improve
our society's lives.

CHARLES
GRACE
2021 BURGESS
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDEE
I found it challenging to be around other kids who did
not go to church in elementary school. I soon learned
the importance of sharing and spreading God's light.
In high school, I was a minority. I found it difficult in
my first years to make friends. However, I did not let
the racial barrier prevent me from social networking,
and becauseof this, I have had experiences that will
help me in college.
In my high school years, I found that my parents are
the most influential people in my life. Because of
their supportand love,
28
I was able to continue music, participate in outsideof-school
programs, clubs, and activities that helped
to enrich me and give me a better character. I have a
passion for music, teaching, and community service.
In the future, I hope to one day become a music
teacher Because I believe that the Arts are essential
for children's growth. All of my teachers have been
very successful and are good at what they do.
Because I have had the privilege of having good
teachers, I know what a good teacher looks like and
hope to incorporate some of the teaching
styles, morals, and valuesthey brought into the
classroomto teach my students in the future.
I had to overcome most of the challenges I've
faced, especially during the pandemic when my
mother got sick. By Praying consistently, having
willpower, and being self-aware, I was able to
make the right decisions. Setting reasonable goals
for myselfhelps me to improve continuously.
My God has made a difference in my life whenever
I'm about to think, say or do something that
displeases God, like the time I had the chance to
sin, God stopped me and made me think twice
aboutwhat would come next. The Bible says in
Proverbs 28:13 that I gain nothing for my poor
decisions and wrong actions. The Book of Proverbs
also says people whoconceal their sins will not
prosper, but they will receive mercy if they
confessand turn from them.
Whenever I was going to take an exam, I called on
the Lord. I put my trust in Him. I know no
matterhow hard I study, I can't do it alone. When I
do somethingfor the first time or when I'm about to
take a big step in life, I put my faith in him because
having faith in God conquersfear every time.
Whenever I do something exceptional, and
there'sno one around to see my accomplishments, I
praise Him anyway becauseI know the fact that I
was able to score that goal or perform a task
wasn'tmy doing; it was the Lord. So, I say thank
you, Lord!
Because of God, I was able to earn my
gradesmoderately during the pandemic. I didn't
cheatto acquire my exam scores.During the
pandemic, I prayed, and the Lord answered me. He
grantedme the focus I neededto complete my
schoolwork while applying for colleges. Even in the
pandemic, God taught me that there is still always
hope, even in the most desperate times.I learned to
approach thingsoptimistically. Through faith,I was
able to graduateand be accepted into a good
college!
When tempted to do things I knew was wrong, but
every time I had the urge to sin (anything that I did
that displeased God in any way), I would pick up
myBible and read Hebrews 11:1 "Faith is the
substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of
things not seen.", my favorite scripture. It reminds
me that by sinning, Iwouldget farther fromGod but
by avoiding temptations, I would get closer to God
because Iknew I was doing the right thing.
Lastly, God played a very significant role in my life
because just before the pandemic began. My family
experienced financial hardship. We received lots of
love and support from friends and family who
wereblessing us. We were provided with meals
every single day until we could get back on our
feet. God has kept my family, and through the
actions of so many others that we have
touched, they reciprocated and gave back in such a
huge way that I know it was the Lord.
There's a gospel song by Wess Morgan that
describes how all the support mademe feel perfect,
and one of the lyrics is "I just can't thank you
enough." It's so true. When I was at my lowest
points mentally and emotionally, God stepped in
and changed my entire perspective of reality,
andshowed me that everything would be alright. As
a GACCS Burgess Scholarship recipient, I plan to
invest it in my higher education so from there, I can
go out into the world and make apositive difference

Humble
Like
Jesus
By David M. Hasz
A leader who assumes he is
more important than he is will
inevitably suffer humiliation. A
leader who walks in humility
will be powerful because he
will no longer be worried about
what others are thinking about
him. Perfect humility frees a
person from constantly
wondering how others will
react to their leadership
decisions and their
personalities.
Many times we get overly
concerned about what other
people will think of what we
say and do, and it’s because of
pride in our lives. Proverbs tells
us that fear of man will prove
to be a snare to us. Fear of man
comes directly out of pride.
39
When prideful, we are afraid of
others. Jesus was not afraid of
what others thought about
him, whether they liked him or
not. He knew the mission that
God sent him on, and he knew
clearly who he was. He was not
concerned with convincing
others of his greatness or his
ability to lead. He just led.
When we start to question our
ability to lead or try to convince
others we are qualified to lead,
pride usually is involved. The
only way you are qualified to
lead at all is because of the
spirit of God working in you.
Remembering this keeps us
humble.
