Luetta M. Bottaro

   Luetta “Lou” (DeLashmutt) Bottaro, 95, died November 16, 2020 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, IA.

   Lou was born May 9, 1925 in rural Lake Township, Whiting, IA the daughter of Dudley and Edith (Olson) DeLashmutt.  She attended the DeLashmutt Country School and the Onawa High School.  Upon graduation, she accepted a position as an inspector for the Army Signal Corp in Des Moines, IA later transferring to St. Louis, Omaha and Sioux City.  In Sioux City, she met and married Samuel Bottaro who was stationed at the Sioux City Air Base.

   The family moved to Salix in the late 60’s.  In the 70’s, Lou was the first person hired at the Iowa Welcome Center at the Sergeant Bluff rest area where she continued to serve travelers for over 30 years.  She retired in 2005 after which she moved to Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

   Survivors include her children: Sammy (Mary) Bottaro of College Springs, IA, Leana Shull (partner Oscar Sandvold) of Turin, IA, Tim (Kate) Bottaro of Sioux City, IA and Pat (Julia) Bottaro of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren: Bradly (Missy) Bottaro, Bethany Vandriel, Rebecca (Bruce) Emmart, Mark (Katie) Shull and Brian Shull; great grandchildren: Sterling and Avery Vandriel, Chelsey and Jena Emmart, Shelby, Shania, Isabella and Keith Shull, Patrick Bottaro, Anne Bottaro and Joey Bottaro and Grace Bottaro.  Other survivors include her siblings: Claire Joines, Maggie Rhebb, David DeLashmutt and Chris Saner; and many other nieces; nephews and cousins.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith (Olson) and Dudley DeLashmutt; her husband, Sam Bottaro of over 50 years; brother, Jimmy Delashmutt; son-in-law, Keith Shull and brothers-in-law: Jim Joines and Keith Rhebb.

   Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Burial will be in the Harrison Cemetery, Whiting, IA.  Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel assisted with arrangements.
