ANCS Home Learning Days

Parent Expectations During HOWL

Getting your child ready

    • Ensure that your child is prepared for the school day - they should have their materials ready and devices charged and ready to go.

    • Encourage consistent schedules for home learning days (wake-up, bed time, etc.).

    • Make sure students have a “space” for work to be completed.

    • Keep school passwords to resources private.

    • Get the username and password for the AtlNCS.org account for your students to check in on their activity.

Communication

    • Check your emails regularly. Information can also be found in The Courier and on the HOWL website so be sure to check those as well!

    • If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher and schedule a time to talk with them that is convenient for both of you.

    • Respect the confidentiality and privacy of our community. Do not repost videos or content or share what other students are saying during class and class meetings.

    • Do not post academic or tech questions on social media, go to the source. Ask teachers, media and tech specialists directly.

Teaching and Learning

    • If a student is unwell and unable to participate in class, please inform teachers.

    • Teachers will be taking attendance daily for each class.

    • School devices should be used for school work only. We prefer that students use their ANCS device for online work. This creates the expectation that it is “school time” when they are on their device and they can only access their school account on these devices.

    • Check on your child as often as possible to ensure that they are completing assignments, submitting work on time, and engaged in all classes.

      • Let us see what your kiddo can do! Let your child make mistakes!

        • Seeing your child’s mistakes allows teachers to understand your child’s learning process.

        • Not knowing your student’s true needs impedes the process of teaching and learning.

        • Additionally, students learn how to self-advocate as they process their own mistakes and ask questions.

Student Expectations During HOWL

We come to school and every class prepared to learn and do our best

  • Get ready for school. Have breakfast, brush your teeth, change out of your pj’s, get ready for the day!

  • Check your online resources to know your schedule for the day (HOWL, Seesaw, Google Classroom).

  • Make sure your device is charged each day.

We respect each other, our surroundings, and ourselves

  • Show high regard for yourself and others.

  • Show concern for the well being of others.

  • Be Respectful. If it is inappropriate face-to-face, then it is inappropriate online as well.

We take responsibility for our actions and learning

  • Students should understand that Distance Learning is an important part of this year’s school experience.

  • Designate time to complete assigned tasks and complete daily assignments.

  • Ask questions if you do not understand.

  • Be accountable for individual behavior that is positive and contributes to a conducive learning environment.

  • Be truthful in words and actions and maintain academic integrity.

  • Be an informed, responsible and caring participant in the community.

We resolve conflicts in a peaceful, thoughtful, and meaningful way

  • Do the right thing in the face of difficulty, regardless of who is present or not present.

  • Ask for help from an adult if you need it.

We celebrate our individual and collective successes

  • Stay engaged in class!

  • Be mindful of everyone’s individual learning experiences, acknowledge the differences you may notice without judgment.

Chromebook Expectations During HOWL

  • Students should have a dedicated workspace that will allow them to place their computer on a stable surface.

  • To prevent accidental damage, students should refrain from moving their computers around unnecessarily.

  • The student is responsible for the chromebook and charger at all times.

  • Do not eat or drink near your chromebook.

  • Do not mark or deface the chromebook in any way with markers, with stickers, or by removing inventory and product labels.

  • The chromebook will be returned to ANCS upon the end of virtual learning in a good, working, and clean condition with the charger.

  • If you have any problems, check our Tech page and/or reach out to ANCS for support technology@atlncs.org
