"Oregon received a new congressional district, and the 5th Congressional District was dramatically redrawn, resulting in my opponent not being a true incumbent (only 47% overlap with the old district). I am strongly positioned in the newly drawn district, having consistently won Deschutes County (now 1⁄3 of likely voters in newly drawn OR-5). My opponent has consistently voted against or watered down critical legislation.

I am proud to have a lifelong commitment to public service, environmental protection, empowering underrepresented communities, and bringing disenfranchised people into the political process. This is work I want to continue and establish national policies for as the next Congresswoman representing Oregon’s newly drawn 5th congressional district.

I am running because we are in a time of crisis - for our environment, our families, and our democracy. We are also in a time of opportunity - the potential for a stronger, more sustainable economy with better community relationships. We have a tired electorate who is burned out and stretched thin from the pandemic – we need civil servants to be a voice of reason, honesty and a voice of resilient optimism. I really do believe that our best days are still ahead and it will take work.

In 2018, I ran for Oregon’s 2nd congressional district, where I had the largest voter swing of any congressional race in the county that cycle with a +10 result. (The newly drawn CD5 is rated D+1, and my opponent underperformed by -2% in the old CD5 last year, meaning he could easily lose the general election to a conservative Republican.) I was the first Democrat to win Deschutes County since 1980.

My background is as an attorney, small business owner, and emergency response coordinator. I have led nonprofits and managed large-scale, multimillion-dollar humanitarian reconstruction projects, social service programs, and disaster recovery projects. I have worked in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. My public service includes as an elected official, appointed city manager, and as a city planner and environmental planner. As an elected office, I successfully passed public policy to build healthier communities. As a professional and as an elected official, I have developed a reputation for showing up, bringing people together, and getting things done. Through my pragmatic, progressive approach to problem solving and support of diverse communities, I have forged strong ties across Oregon."
