The A495 at Newton has been partially closed since November and council officials say work is yet to start on the repairing the barriers.

There are currently traffic lights operating on the road after crash barriers were damaged in a tractor trailer crash.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council's Cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "Work to repair the damaged barrier on the A495 hasn't yet started.

"For safety reasons one lane is currently closed and temporary traffic lights are in place. But for the repair work to be carried out the road will need to be completely closed and a diversion route put in place.

"With other resurfacing works planned in the Ellesmere area the road closures and diversion routes for all of these jobs need to be carefully considered and co-ordinated so that they don't conflict and to minimise disruption to road users and residents."Once a date for the A495 closure has been agreed, we estimate that the work will take at least four weeks to complete."
