Soul #3

Refrain

Rate this book
People dream of a love that runs deep. So deep it feels like it's always been with you, just waiting for the person who'll own your heart and soul forever. So few ever find it, but for Rhyson Gray and Kai Pearson, happily ever after was only the beginning... One of the biggest rock stars in the world and one of the brightest rising stars make a life together. Sometimes it's glamour-filled days and blissed out nights, but it's mostly staying true in the too-bright glare of the spotlight. It's long stretches where the road is lonely and the work is hard. It's living in a love that's the safest place you know even while danger lurks at your door.

Book 3 of The Soul series is an emotionally-charged epic conclusion that had to be told and should not be missed for fans of this series and this couple!

MY SOUL TO KEEP (Soul Series #1) * DOWN TO MY SOUL (Soul Series #2) * REFRAIN (Soul Series #3) *#99c each<--

A beautiful, intense, flawlessly crafted conclusion to one of my favourite love stories with an unputdownable narrative that took me on a journey of fear, heart stopping moments and LOVE<-- #6StarLove.

Refrain, the third and final part of this MUSIC themed New Adult Romance series, continues the love story in true Kai and Rhyson style, living in the moment, experiencing highs and lows and providing breath-taking moments that made my heart beat fast, shed tears and utterly swoon. It simply must be experienced; they easily fall into my top romance couples list of all time. The Soul Series began as a friends-to-lovers story with MY SOUL TO KEEP oozing romance and passion with Rhyson a successful and very famous musician and Kai, a girl with a dream to perform music professionally. They both became the epitome of what I love in a hero and heroine and their character attributes continue to shine in REFRAIN. Their relationship dynamic, their banter and their love lights up the page showcasing an exponential amount of feeling to the reader.

The rich lyrical prose is presented in first person narrative and from the alternating perspective of the hero and heroine. The opening pages of REFRAIN completely transport the reader back to the fictional world of the Soul Series, all my thoughts and feelings came flooding back as I was reminded of the individual tumultuous histories that have shaped their life and their love. The character development, both individually and as a couple is perfect, the motivation illustrated always on point, a factor that is so important for my enjoyment of a story.

As the story arc develops Kennedy Ryan's flawless writing once again shows her flair for engaging story telling hooking the reader into the drama, displaying a prose enhanced with a special brand of penmanship that never fails to create the most exquisite pictures and emotion. I relished the passages enhanced with expressive eroticism littered with sexy imagery to heighten the feel and emotion evoked from the scenes, complementing the romance aspect perfectly. The passion and love the protagonists show for each other is immense whilst still rocking my world with angst as the story arc of REFRAIN opens up and we experience the true extent of the drama. I was gripped to the happenings unsure of where their life would end up whilst all the time rooting for the outcome I desired. This third book is everything I needed it to be and more, hence my exuberance for the story and 6 Star love!

Back in 2015 I was told by my very good friend TeriLyn Reviews that I simply had to read MY SOUL TO KEEP, book one of the Soul Series by Kennedy Ryan, and she was right! It went on to become one of my very top reads of 2015. Since then I have read all of her work and basked in the brilliance. She paints the most beautiful vivid pictures with words that never fail to make me fall deeper in love with her stories. Refrain is the perfect example of her work and a #mustread third and final part of Kai and Rhyson's special story.

”Not love. Not at first.” He shakes his head and links our hands on his chest. “But a recognition of sorts. I think my soul knew you before I did. Knew you were the one I should spend the rest of my life with. Getting to know you, becoming your friend, only convinced me of what I think my heart and my soul already knew.”

Okay. This is beautiful.

They are kismet, they are special, and they love with all their heart and soul. This book touches your deep down, makes you laugh and cry and most of all makes you Happy Happy!!

This book, this journey of Kai and Rhy, delves into their connection even deeper than you imagine. Their love and their commitment comes thru the beautiful and meaningful words written by the author. Refrain is the amazing conclusion to Rhyson and Kai’s love story. I loved it! This book was like a super long epilogue. It has everything I want in the final chapter of a love story. It was beautiful and romantic, and there was some drama. The only thing I missed, was a really far look in their future, especially after what happened near the end. Maybe I’ll read more about their future in Grip and Bristol’s (secondary characters) books. I’ll definitely read those, because I want to read about them finally falling in love with each other.

Kai and Rhyson were just as I remembered them, and I had been a while since I read My Soul to Keep or Down to My Soul. Both of them are talented and passionate about music. Kai is sweet, caring, feisty, determined and loving. She still dreams of going solo and Rhyson wants to make that dream come true. He believes in her. Rhyson is protective, strong, successful, hardworking and caring. He loves Kai fiercely and Kai does the same. Kai and Rhyson are perfect for each other.

What a fantastic wrap up to this series!

This is now my sixth book by Kennedy Ryan and I'm just in love with her characters and writing style. You can't help but get involved emotionally with what's going on in these pages. As long as she's writing romance, I'm here for it. Plus her bedroom scenes are second to none.

This is the sister series to the Grip books which also had me hooked. Having now spent six books with these characters I'm already feeling the loss. There's been so many wonderful highs and dramatic lows. The journey has been incredible.

Five stars.

At time of posting this series is available on Kindle Unlimited.

When I learned that Kennedy Ryan will write a novella for one of my favorite couple, Rhyson & Kai, I couldn’t be happier. Just can’t let go of this couple. But she did more, she wrote a full novel, you are very kind to your readers who clamor for more Rhyson & Kai. Thank you!

Rhyson continuously shows how much Kai means to her, how much he value her opinion, her thoughts, she’s his everything. Kai learned her lesson not to keep anything from Rhyson. And their drama-free relationship, based on trust and honesty, personifies what unconditional love is.

Kai is doing everything from photo shoot to rehearsal, in preparation of launching her career. While Rhyson works behind the camera, being the producer and a performer at the same time, he got his hands full, so-to-speak. They may be both busy with their respective career, but when sexy time begins, well, well, well, it’s hot, hot, and hot.

No words are enough to express how much I love this book or the whole series. The characters are eloquently written and unforgettable. The plot, from the very beginning, is well defined. Last but not the least, those love scenes are hot off the chart. Ms. Ryan finished the series with a bang! I spent an amazing time reading this series. I highly recommend this book to anyone into this kind of story.

Note: I won this ARC from #ShhSummerBuzzBooks. Thank you Author Kennedy Ryan, SueBee, Alessandra Torre & AnL.

When I started reading Refrain the first thought that came to me was how much I'd missed Kai and Rhyson. It was so easy to get back into the story of them. It was almost as if they were a part of me. Every emotion I had and went through while ready My Soul To Keep and Down To My Soul came back in a flash and I was enveloped in a bubble of love. Love for these two fabulous characters and the love for Kennedy Ryan's writing.

One thing that has been a constant for me besides Kai and Rhyson's relationship as lovers was their friendship. That's what resounded for me throughout the series. It was perfectly founded in My Soul To Keep and my connection to them was immediately. It only strengthened in Down To My Soul and now in Refrain.
I love that they are each other's confidants. They are so content and honest with one another that their love shines so clear. It was intoxicating and powerful. I was literally addicted to their love. It hit me straight in the heart.

Kennedy Ryan delivered a perfect conclusion to Kai and Rhyson's story. This story solidified what was apparent in My Soul To Keep. They were each other's constants. Soul mates. Ryan created an intense and at times suspenseful story but the primary focus was always Kai and Rhyson's friendship and love. The love between them was hot. Off the charts but it was necessary to the story. They need the connection, the intimacy and it was hauntingly beautiful.
Ryan's writing was flawless and impeccable as always. This series, Soul, was a mesmerizing story of all consuming love and friendship. Simply perfection.

Soul Series Book Three coming August 15th! A MUST READ continuation of Rhyson & Kai's EPIC love story!

5++++ "Perfect love casts out fear." Stars

These books stand as one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE romance series. My words cannot adequately describe the love affair I have with Kennedy Ryan's writing. So refreshing and evocative and engaging. Refrain comes as the third book in Rhyson and Kai's story and is a MUST READ continuation about what happens after the happily ever for now. This authors brilliant story telling, descriptive prose, and unforgettable characters resurface brilliantly in Refrain for another truly beautiful installment in the lives of these beloved characters. Two people for whom I'll never forget in a truly unique story.

If you read the first two books in the series you may have thought their love journey was complete but Kennedy Ryan proves beyond measure that there's so much more to explore beyond the end of Down to My Soul. Rhyson and Kai are navigating a life in the spotlight together while maintaining sincere devotion and abundant love in their relationship. The adversities they face as a couple come at them from every which way and watching them handle their lives together was a beautiful gift from Kennedy Ryan. Her character development of Rhys and Kai flows freely. There is no stagnant flow to their maturation and continual self discovery. So much happens in this book and they way it's constructed plays out brilliantly.

Kennedy Ryan's obvious gift for story telling and penchant for epic love stories shines so brightly through these two characters, as it has through the entire series. She makes you FEEL everything they feel with her gorgeous words and fluid plot structure. She evokes our inner romantic and makes us cherish what we have and feel fortunate enough to have it. Rhyson and Kai have had a long, bumpy, and beautiful journey but their story is far from over. Refrain will have you falling in love with these characters and this story all over again.

It is highly recommended you read the first two books of the series before Refrain. This is not a stand alone. If you haven't yet discovered this author's stories and these characters, well, what are you waiting for?

Refrain (Soul Series #3) by Kennedy Ryan
4.5 stars!!!

“Perfect love casts out fear.”

This is one of those series that I have adored from the very beginning. There was something about Rhyson and Kai from the very beginning that captured my full attention. They were an adorable couple who had mountains to climb and seemingly had the world against them, yet they survived, team #Kaison. Us readers asked for more and Kennedy Ryan delivered, but not before putting us through the wringer one final time, the woman is evil!

Refrain is the icing on the proverbial cake, closure for a couple that certainly deserved a happily ever after, yet after My Soul to Keep and Down to My Soul we only had the happy for now. What would happen to Rhyson and Kai?

“I’m going to spend the rest of my life loving you.”

Rhyson and Kai now find themselves thrust into the spotlight while trying to keep their personal lives private and it is fighting a losing battle. Rhyson has always been extremely protective over Kai and this doesn’t lighten up at all, in fact it intensifies. But, the feelings go both ways. One thing that I have never been able to deny with these two is the intense love, devotion and adoration that they have for each other and the more time their lives are played out on page after page the more Kennedy Ryan cements this into your heart and head. You believe it, you live it and it is this intense character connection that I have now had over three novels that really makes you live and breathe every word, every situation no matter how happy or heart breaking it may be.

“If this is light, it’s blinding until she is all I can see. If this is sound, it’s music. We are the verse; we are the chorus. And as we come together, her cries harmonizing with mine, this love resounds. It’s loud; so deafeningly loud that I all I hear is her. And all she hears is me. We are our own refrain.”

Being famous and in the public eye, under constant scrutiny is tough on anybody, but while the fans are often a boost they can often bring you down in more ways than one. Fans are fickle little things and often have more power than you ever thought possible. Rhyson is still nursing his damaged hand but is spending his time in the studio with his up and comings and really throwing himself into that side of his business. He has fears about his abilities for once in his life and while only he can hear the difference it is more than enough to knock his confidence. After having a natural born talent to suddenly having to work at it is more a mental issue for him and having the love and support of Kai is all the therapy he really needs.

“My whole world spins on this girl. She’s my axis.”

Kai is fighting to keep the momentum going of her rise to fame, really cherishing her moment in the spotlight, after all it has been a long time coming. Kai has waited an age for her time, for her moment. Being the selfless person she was she now wants this more than anything but sometimes live throws you curveballs and as we have already experienced with this couple’s curveballs, they have a lot of power.

“Our song isn’t one I’ve ever written or sung. It’s the one that plays between our souls.”

Kennedy Ryan is a master craftsman with fluid, lyrical writing that just flows from page to page. Emotion comes easy and she is a master at pulling on every single heart string without even trying. Kennedy Ryan makes you experience intense highs and intense lows in Refrain, she will make you laugh and she will make you cry but this is what she does best. This is one hell of a rollercoaster ride; you definitely need to buckle up!

“Leap for me, Kai.”

A refrain in musical terminology is the chorus, the lyrics you repeat, often the hook that draws you into a song and the lyrics that never leave your head that you hum and sing to yourself over and over again. To me, Kai and Rhyson are the refrain, they are the couple that I will never forget, they were the hook, their story has been played over and over in my mind since finishing on repeat like the chorus. I have loved everything about this series and one that I will definitely read over and over again when I just need a bit of #Kaison.

A beautiful end to a beautiful series.

I was beyond happy to catch up with this lovable couple, and seeing how their relationship had progressed. Rhysons POV was my favourite part, how possessive he is over Kai, he loves that woman something fierce. Their relationship is put to the ultimate test in part 3, with a lot of things trying to get in their way of a HEA.

Rhys & Kai's "once-in-a-lifetime" kind of love has been a pleasure to read, and I will miss them terribly.

I've laughed & cried at this series (and may have screamed at the shower part in bk.2.) I'm just extremely grateful that I got to experience the #Kaison effect.

First things first, I am the original Mrs. Rhyson Grey. I have loved him since I beta read the first Soul book 13 months ago. Now that is clear with everyone, you can also thank me for this book as I badgered Kennedy for more Rhyson.

You might have thought that Rhyson and Kai's story was told but there is more to tell. This is by far the SEXIEST book Kennedy has written. In addition to the sexy times, there is fear, sadness, utter joy, and character development for Rhyson and Bristol.

I loved this book so much and am glad that Kennedy expanded it to a full book instead of a novella. You won't want to miss the conclusion to Kai and Rhyson's story; trust me!

Kennedy Ryan has done it yet again. I continue to be amazed by what this woman can create.

It's no secret I love this series,RHYSON and Kai are truly one of the best book couples I've been lucky enough to experience. When I finished book 2, I just knew this story could not be over, and if I'm speaking truthfully I never want it to end. Refrain seals it all together, all the pieces you knew you needed to truly say goodbye to these two have been done and said. The love these two bring to life is breathtaking. As we all know they both have hurt each other in the past, but they have come along long way. In Refrain the past is put to rest but the love they have for each other is amped. If you thought they loved one another before you'll just about scream when you see what's in store.

The words and feels in this book will break you, Heal you, and make you believe in true love.

Ryan Kennedy has created a masterpiece, A love story that feels so completely raw and real your soul, your heart, every bone in your body will be feeling it days after.

“...this love resounds. It’s loud; so deafeningly loud that all I hear is her. And all she hears is me. We are our own refrain.”

Well I'll be damned. I don't think I'll ever get enough doses of Rhyson Gray. Ever. I'm honestly over the moon that Kennedy Ryan decided to give us one more book of Rhyson Gray and Kai Pearson, and a full-length one at that. It'll never get old. They just keep getting better and better. They make me fall deeper in love each time. And I think this one's by far my favorite out of the three.

All I can say is, a jealous, territorial and very desperately in love Rhyson Gray is TO. DIE. FOR. I mean, what the hell is new, right? Can this man be any more perfect and wonderful than he already is? I'm already melted into a puddle of goo ever since I started this book. Everything this man does and says will just slay you and bring you to your freaking knees. The love, the bond and passion that these two exuded in this book is out of this world. More than I've ever felt when I'm immersed in their world. And oh my goodness, what a whirlwind of emotions has this book given me.

Thank you, Kennedy Ryan for this. For giving us Rhys and Kai. And yet another book that captured and captivated my very heart and soul. I'm absolutely excited for Grip's book. Like over-the-top-going-crazy-out-of-my-mind kind of excited. Because OH MY GOD HE'S GETTING HIS OWN BOOK!!!

Be ready to drop your panties and swoon over this one. And hold on to your heart. Because Rhyson Gray.

Pure perfection!! I read the last page of Down to My Soul and did two things: yelled "NOOOOO" because I didn't want it to be over. Then I politely asked (okay, begged) Kennedy Ryan to please, for the love of God, give us more Rhys & Kai. Apparently I wasn't the only reader who fell so deep in love with this couple and their story, because Kennedy gave us Refrain - her thank you to all of the fans of the Soul series.

I wasn't sure what to expect in this book, but it blew all my expectations out of the water. It is phenomenal. Kennedy's writing is spectacular. I was reminded why she is one of a handful of my automatic one-click, don't-even-need-to-read-a-blurb authors. This story at times made me feel like my heart was going to burst from love, then made it pound from anxiety, and then healed my wounded heart. Kennedy wrapped this beautiful story up in a bow, giving fans of this series the perfect ending. And Rhys - oh I have no words for this man! He is just....everything.

I highly recommend this series - it sits on my all-time favorites bookshelf and holds a permanent place in my heart. And because I'm greedy - I can't wait for the next spinoff of this series, GRIP, hoping to get a glimpse of how Rhys & Kai are doing in the future!

This was a nice conclusion to Kai and Rhyson’s journey. They’re love was so deep and they deserved everything. It was nice getting to read about them just as a couple. Nothing holding them back or getting in their way. There was a conflict in this one but it didn’t take away from their romance. I actually liked Kai in this one. She had no reservations and truly respected Rhyson as her partner. If she acted this way throughout the whole series I would have love it but it was still a good series either way.

"And what's that? ... "

"That you're mine and I'm yours."

Kennedy Ryan wraps up (hopefully not for the last time) the love story of one of the sweetest couples that I've ever read. I fell in love with these two from the very moment they met and have become more than a little obsessed with them as their story evolved. When Down to My Soul ended I was one of many fans who cried foul that Ryan would close the book on #Kaison - I just felt like I needed more. I was ecstatic when I learned that she'd written one more entry for this beautiful couple.

Refrain was a sweet and entertaining conclusion to Rhyson and Kai's love story, full of romance, excitement, and a surprising bit of suspense. I loved every scene with my two faves - I really could read about Kai and Rhyson forever, because their chemistry is so dynamic that even the simplest glance is fully charged. They're my favorite kind of couple, you know, the ones who just can't get enough of each other, and not just in the sense that they're having hot ass sex all the time (which they were), but in the sense that they're always near each other, always touching each other, always connected. Kai and Rhyson's bond is stronger in Refrained, and it was a joy to see them deal with a few trials after their HEA.

A part of the reason why I was so excited for this book was because there were a couple of loose ends I wanted settled for #Kaison. Refrain addressed them all satisfactorily and gloriously, but it took a while to get there. I'm a #Kaison fanatic like the craziest of them, but I didn't love this book through and through. There were some parts of the plot that seemed, as my friends and I refer to it, a bit drama llama, and I tolerated them to get to the sweet and organic moments that I loved so much in the previous two installments. Fortunately, those moments were aplenty, so I experienced that cheesy-grinning, dramatic-sighing, awe-inducing high that just feeds my romance-loving addiction.

The Soul Series will go down as one of my favorite romantic series. Kai and Rhyson are a fantastic couple, the writing is beautiful, and the story heartfelt and passionate. These books will be re-read repeatedly for years and years, and I can't recommend them enough.

Hopefully I'll see more of these two when we get Marlon's story. *Fingers crossed*

After basking in the goodness of DOWN TO MY SOUL, I wasn't sure about needing more from Kai and Rhyson; I liked where it was left. However, I quickly enjoyed being in the happy zone with these two.

As the book moved on, I went back and forth in how I felt about the book, some great story, some hit-you-in-the-gut lines but also some unnecessary angst. I did struggle with Rhyson in this book due to his over-alpha control and Kai's capitulation to this at times. This was my last favourite of the three books but I'm still glad I've read it and that epilogue was kind of superb.

I've enjoyed this series far more than I expected (only because I don't always like rocker stories) and I'm on team Kennedy Ryan who writes super smoking chemistry.

Refrain is a beautifully written, hot and intense conclusion to what has become one of my favorite series.

Rhys and Kai are still crazy in love, but not out of the woods quite yet. Everything about them is more intense, their connection, their insane chemistry, and the tension around them. I spent most of this book on the edge of my seat with my heart in my throat. Kennedy Ryan takes us on a wild and very unexpected ride filled with scorching hot scenes and jaw dropping suspense.

Rhyson is in all his hot, alpha rockstar glory, and I fell for him twice as hard in Refrain. The way he loves Kai is beautiful, and with this book he's in my hall of fame of book boyfriends. I tried to read slow because I didn't want to let him go.

I am soooooo glad that Kennedy Ryan gave us 3 full novels of Rhyson and Kai, because they were so dynamic. Literally 2 people who could not live or breathe without each other. The devotion was jumping and singing off the pages!!! And Bristol and Marlon are all over these!!

If you are familiar with this author..have read Grip series or Hoops series than you know her style and how she writes love and devotion. It is to the bones...deep!!! So good!!! I only have one more set of books of her I haven't read - The Bennett series..which is her oldest set..heard it's a bit different than this style - but I am still looking forward to it!!!

And of you aren't familiar with these than start here and the soul series...then you read the Grip Series and enjoy being blown away!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Just when you thought you understood the deep love between Rhyson and Kai, the author gifts us with this. Her words, these characters, their love? They are a testament to love and how love truly bears all things.

“You keep making me fall in love with you over and over and over. When does it stop?”
“It won’t stop.”

Rhyson and Kai have been through so much to get to where they are now. Their love has been challenged, they’ve faced adversity and heartbreak. Through it all, their love has never wavered. Never faltered. Their love simply existed. At all times. In Refrain, they are nothing short of dedicated and committed to each other. But as they grow in love, life has more in store for them. It’s a challenge that their love has no problem facing head on.

“It overwhelms, the privilege of his love.”

Rhyson and Kai’s love and life story is just beginning. And this was a perfect way to truly see just how much these two complete each other. Their love is overwhelming. Powerful. Palpable. And you feel it with every word of their story. Rhyson wants nothing more than to protect Kai. His love is unyielding. He loves with his entire heart. His entire being. His love knows no bounds. He loves fiercely. Loudly. And Kai’s love for Rhyson testifies to the fact that love always wins. The emotions felt in this book echo the most beautiful love song. It is truly a privilege to read a love story like theirs.

“….this love resounds.”
“It’s so loud; so deafingly loud that all I hear is her. And all she hears is me. We are our own refrain.”

The writing in Refrain left me breathless. With it’s lyrical and poetic prose, I felt my heart beat with every word and declaration of love between Rhyson and Kai. The author has this amazing talent to place her readers within the heart and soul of her characters. Her gift of storytelling continues to blow me away. The pacing was genius. Just when I thought I couldn’t fall in love with her writing, once again she proves why she continues to rank as a top author of mine. This book is not one of those where the author simply adds more drama. This story serves a deeply important purpose. It is a beautiful addition to Rhyson and Kai’s story. You know the author put her all into this one from the moment you start reading. Her words take on such meaning. There is power in her words. And that? That is how you write romance.

“Perfect love casts out fear.”

I read Refrain in one sitting. I never wanted to part with with this story. I was simply mesmerized and enthralled by the words and characters of this story. I didn’t think the author could add any more to their story, but she did. Effortlessly. The angst and romance had a perfect balance. The execution of this story demonstrates the unparalleled talent of this author. Refrain was a brilliant and touching final installment to this masterpiece of a book series. I don't think any review can do this book justice. There are no words to describe just how deeply this story and the rest of this series truly moved me. Beautiful and poignant, this is what every love story should be.

“That’s because I save the best parts of myself for you.”
