Prof. Rohit J. Parikh is one of the chief organizers of the “Conference on Eastern and Western Philosophical Themes” that is being organized on December 4-5, 2009 at the Brooklyn College, CU, New York. Prof Parikh, a Palanpuri, is the Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University.
He currently teaches a course on Belief, Knowledge and Games at the CUNY Graduate center and also lectures on Artificial Intelligence, Formal Languages, Theory of Computation and Modal Logic.
The aim of the Conference is to create awareness that issues like epistemology, time, and selfhood have been addressed very intelligently in the East, and to reopen the lively dialogue that existed between Western and Eastern philosophy in the past as a result of which Schopenhauer, Nietzsche and William James were strongly influenced by Eastern philosophy.
A number of well known speakers from all over the globe will participate in the Conference.
The Sponsors of the Conference include Philosophy departments (Brooklyn College and CUNY Graduate Center), Wolfe Institute, Brooklyn College, Office of Development at CUNY Graduate Center, The Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund, Asian American/Asian Research Institute.
