ITS AWARDED ARMY IDIQ CONTRACT TO SUPPLY HD-SDI VIDEO INSERTERS

17-Oct-2011 | News-Press Release

ITS received an IDIQ contract from the US Army to supply up to 125 of its new 6980G-HD high definition SDI video
inserters. The award was coupled with an initial release of 18 units to be delivered late in November of this year.
This award follows orders from Dugway Proving Grounds and NAVAIR’s China Lake for this newly released product.
The 6980G-HD is a SD/HD-SDI video inserter designed from the ground up to meet the unique needs of
instrumentation and analysis. The system autodetects and inserts user authored information into 480i, 720p, 1080i
or 1080p video at NTSC and PAL frame/field rates in accordance with SMPTE 259M/292M/494M as appropriate.
Most importantly, the 6980G-HD can generate time stamps within 10 microseconds of the vertical sync of each field
(interlace) or frame (progressive) of the incoming video. It can insert these time stamps in a user selectable color
anywhere on the video image. The 6980G-HD also can record time stamps to 1 microsecond resolution in the VANC
metadata of the SDI stream. The time stamp is formatted in compliance with STANAG 4609, therefore any recording
device and decoding device compliant with this NATO standard can read and report time stamps field by field or
frame by frame as desired. The 6980G-HD can also act as a STANAG 4609 metadata decoder and insert into the
video time stamps pre-stored in the VANC as it passes through the system.
Up to 3,200 printable text characters (1080i or p) can be place anywhere on the video in a range of colors.
Additionally the 6980G-HD has predefined boresight reticals and crosshair/box graphics that can each be placed
anywhere in the active video; each in different colors.
There is an internal GPS 12-channel receiver that synchronizes time to within 30 nanoseconds of the UTC. The
6980G-HD also accepts an external IRIG B source for time synchronization.
The system can be fully remotely controlled via a 10/100 BaseT Ethernet I/O or an RS232 serial port at user
selectable baud rates. There are also front panel controls and a full keyboard supplied with the unit for local control
and programming.
ITS will be showing the 6980G-HD in Booth # 314 at the coming International Telemetering Conference at Bally’s in
Las Vegas, October 25-27, 2011.
ITS is also presenting a paper, Transitioning from NTSC to HD Digital Video as part of International Telemetering
Conference Technical Program Session 12 on Wednesday, October 26th 2011 at 9:00 am which will explore some of
the key issues to be addressed as the test and instrumentation industry makes this transition.
