The Western States Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (WSPEHSU) has an ongoing collaboration with the Center for Integrative Research on Childhood Leukemia and the Environment (CIRCLE) Community Outreach and Translation Core, working to educate clinicians and the public about environmental toxicants that increase the risk of childhood leukemia and other childhood diseases.
Based on the "Story of Health" eBook and course, the videos use shadow puppets to depict a story about a couple learning about toxicant exposure and its associated risks as it relates to preconception and pregnancy. Examples of toxicants highlighted in the video include secondhand cigarette smoke, paint, and cleaning solutions. Preventative measures include selecting 'Safer Choice' products and using face masks when painting. It is also available in Spanish.
