I love the pic of the "factory model", and that last pic... the only other plane to lose that much wing and still fly is an F-15, so far as I know. Speaking of wing-loss, wasn't there a C-47 that lost most of the wing outboard of the nacelle in a collision, but still managed to land? I thought I read that somewhere... Also, it can't be the Belleau Wood. The ship in the pic with the "hooks down" is definitely an Essex class CV, while Belleau Wood was an Independence class CVL. The pic with the TBF catching the wire on the deck could be Belleau Wood, because that appears to be an Independence class. The one hanging over the side is a CVE, but not sure which one. I've seen the last picture with a large section of the left wing missing before,but hadn't noticed the flattened portion of the vertical fin extension aft of the turret.Strangely,the way that its flattened look like the blast effect came from the right side.I've never seen any info on how much longer this airplane remained controlable and airborne.Any info on that Jack? Anyone?
