The Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) is an interdisciplinary centre for postsecondary education at the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies (GSE&IS) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). HERI research includes "the outcomes of postsecondary education, leadership development, institutional transformation, faculty performance, federal and state policy, and educational equity". They are responsible for the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP), a national longitudinal study of the American higher education system, with annual updates. The website includes data, reports and publications derived from their research and more about HERI and their work.

The Stanford Institute for Higher Education Research (SIHER) is a research centre that examines "contemporary higher education planning and policy issues from a wide range of analytical perspectives, including those of social scientists and policy audiences in the United States and abroad". Higher Education Policy is a peer reviewed journal published by Palgrave on behalf of the International Association of Universities, a worldwide organisation of universities with UNESCO support. It aims to advance scholarly understanding of the policy process applied to higher education through the publication of original analyses, both theoretical and practice-based, the focus of which may range from case studies of developments in individual institutions to policy making at systems and at national level. It is written for higher education researchers, institutional leaders and policy makers, as well as academics and students who share an interest in higher education policies across the world. The website includes instructions for authors, free abstracts / contents listings and access to the archive of past issue to 1996. Issues in higher education policy: An update on higher education policy issues in 2004 in 11 Western countries is a research paper produced by the Center for higher education Policy Studies (CHEPS) in the Netherlands. It seeks to assess higher education issues in terms of educational and research infrastructures, governance, finance and quality assurance in these nations. It also examines the effect of the Bologna process of higher education harmonisation across EU countries.

The Bologna Declaration on the European space for higher education: an explanation is a briefing document prepared by the Confederation of EU Rectors' Conferences and the Association of European Universities. It includes: a comment on the meaning and significance of the Bologna Declaration and information on the follow-up process in progress; the text of the Declaration; a list of Internet addresses from which more detailed information can be obtained. It stresses that the Bologna Declaration is aiming for a process of convergence in European higher education, not a process of standardisation or uniformisation. This website hosts full-text copies of the reports of the National Committee of Inquiry into higher education (chaired by Sir Ron Dearing), which were submitted to the Secretaries of State for Education and Employment, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in July 1997. This version of the Dearing Report offers an alternative to the paper version which consists of over 1,700 pages of text. The web version has five main sections: The Summary Report, the Report of the National Committee, the Report of the Scottish Committee, Appendices and the fourteen reports. There is a link to a list of the recommendations at the end of the 'Summary Report' section.

The DCSF Higher Education Gateway is for professionals interested in the UK Government's higher education policy. Much of the site is made up of supporting materials relating various Higher Education Acts and their subsequent implementation. This addresses issues such as fair access to higher education, regulation and funding of the higher education sector and student fees, finance and applications. The site also contains a glossary of acronyms, links to related bodies and a full text search facility. Many of the documents are only available as PDF or Word files.

African Higher Education Research Online (AHERO) is "an open access archive of texts that focus on the study, practice and governance of higher education in Africa" administered by the Centre for the Study of Higher Education (CSHE) at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. It focusses on papers relevant to the study, practice and administration of higher education at a professional level, but also contains some analytical and theoretical papers. All papers are submitted by experts and researchers in the field. Users can search or browse the archive, deposit new papers or comment on existing ones and sign up for email updates to be notified about new papers appearing in specific areas.

The Impact of Higher Education Institutions on regional economies initiative aims to "promote better understanding of the key economic and social impacts generated by UK higher education institutions on their host regions and on other regions of the UK". Supported by the ESRC and the 4 national HE funding councils, the initiative will look at the economic, business and wider societal impact of the higher education sector. The website gives details about the various research projects funded by the initiative, the coordination of the research themes and networks, useful links and a collection of working papers, discussion papers and other documents, as they become available.

Their website gives details about the work of HEERA, how to join and the benefits of becoming a member, lists events they have organised and provides a membership directory for members to get in touch with other external relations professionals working in UK universities and colleges. Higher Education Empirical Research (HEER) database is maintained by the the Centre for Higher Education Research and Information (CHERI) of The Open University. It provides free access to a searchable index of recent articles, reports and papers relating to higher education policy and practice. This includes key themes such as HE funding; widening access; quality assurance, the graduate labour market, Learning, teaching and assessment, and the university and college workforce in the UK . Access to abstracts requires registration. Registered users may also set up email alerts.

This Higher Education Academy project, ‘Integrated Children's Services in Higher Education (ICS-HE): Preparing tomorrow's professionals’ (ICS-HE), focuses on professional education for integrated children's services to meet the Every Child Matters (ECM) agenda. The key disciplines and professions include: education, early years professionals, careers, nursing, midwifery, medicine, psychology, social work and youth and community work. The future of Higher Education is a blog run by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills and hosted by JISC Involve. It aims to engage the academic community in a debate around developing a framework for Higher Education in the UK for the next ten to fifteen years. The blog will help inform the official consultation process which will take place in the autumn of 2008. While presented as a blog, the site has more of a discussion board format with brief posts outlining topics to be discussed and linking to invitations to contribute sent to key players in the Higher Education sphere. Users are invited to leave comments on these subjects, although these may need to be approved by a moderator. Issues available for discussion include: part-time study, the student experience, internationalisation, intellectual property issues and the role of academia in policy-making.

The International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (IJTLHE) is a freely available, online peer reviewed journal that provides a forum for higher education staff, administrators, researchers, and students who are interested in improving post-secondary instruction. It covers higher education pedagogy and the scholarship of teaching and learning across subject areas, educational institutions, and levels of instructional expertise. It is the journal of the International Society for Exploring Teaching and Learning (ISETL). The website includes an archive of past issues stretching back to 2005, a search facility, a listing of the most popular downloads and the option to download an entire issue. The National Association for Kinesiology and Physical Education in Higher Education (NAKPEHE) is an American organisation for professionals in higher education. This review was commissioned by Sport England to assess the contribution that higher education (HE) institutions make to the provision of participation and excellence in sport in England. The audit was sent to all HE institutions in England in September 2002 to review the type of facilities and services offered, current usage and expansion plans to assess the potential impact on the wider sporting provision of each institution. It includes case studies of eight institutions identified through the audit as being examples of innovation in this sector. This report by John Kirriemuir was published in March 2003. It discusses the use of video games and gaming consoles in learning, teaching and research activities in higher and further education. To start with, the report gives an overview of gaming consoles and compares consoles and the PC. It then discusses the benefits of games and gaming consoles to learning, the incorporation of gaming consoles into learning environments, the use of gaming consoles as research tools in academia and the future applications of games and gaming consoles in learning and teaching. The Association for Tourism in higher education (ATHE) acts as the subject association for tourism in UK higher education. The association promotes the development and recognition of tourism as a subject of study and encourages high standards and good practice in teaching, learning and research. It organises a conference annually and publishes guidelines. The International Journal of Sustainability in higher education is a peer reviewed academic journal published by Emerald in conjunction with the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future (ULSF). The journal is issued three times a year and aims to publish articles that focus on " ... environmental management systems (EMS), sustainable development and Agenda 21 issues at higher education institutions, worldwide." The website provides editorial information, publication details, subscription and order enquiries. European Association for Quality Assurance for Higher Education (ENQA) is a European Network to disseminate information, experiences, good practices and new developments in the field of quality assessment and quality assurance in higher education between interested parties: public authorities, higher education institutions and quality assurance agencies. The website contains information about ENQA and its member agencies, workshop details, news, a bulletin board, links and full-text publications. The Future of Higher Education is a UK government white paper (CM 5735) that was presented to Parliament by then Secretary of State for Education and Skills, Charles Clarke, in January 2003. The paper sets out the government's vision for all higher education in England and includes plans for changing the student finance system, for improving the quality of teaching and learning, and for expanding higher education and increasing accessibility to more young people. The paper is available as a PDF (591kb). The site also provides access to an executive summary of the paper, Charles Clarke's statement to the House of Commons, and a document that attempts to summarise what the reforms will mean in practical terms for students and parents.
