The best way to combat the mainstream media is to buy music, movies, magazines, and newspapers only from alternative media, independent studios, and record labels. Sell/trade any DVDs and CDs you have from the big 6 media conglomerates. Don't use myspace or IGN which are owned by Fox. Give up a little so your kids don't have to give up a lot.
I think you can blame President Bill Clinton back in 1996 when he signed that insidious Telecommunications Act. But again, I think he was stupid enough to sign that bill, so he can appeal to congressional right wingers. The same right wingers who impeached his ass later during "Monica-Gate".
So what's the common step the average person is wiling to do to help? Support right? Many whine but do nothing. What creative way should be devised to not only make the US public aware, but also take a small step that will collectively make a difference?
These corporate fascist pigs operate like the mob. But again, they own the government. Corporate lobbyists have more of a say in our electoral & legislative process than the actual individual registered voter does. It's no wonder why here in the United States, we have such low voter turnout. Liberals, conservatives, Libertarians, green party members, Independents, and everyone else should be up in arms with this whole internet restriction bullshit.
net neutrality has already been killed globally by the american government. as of 2007, any material that touches the nerve of the american governement, example, the rape and murder videos by white american soldiers, recorded by the same soldiers, was effectivley blocked on a global scale. becuase it conflicted with the image of what these people wanted america and whites to be.

The future of the Internet is up for grabs. Big corporations are lobbying Washington to turn the gateway to the Web into a toll road. Yet the public knows little about what's happening behind closed doors where the future of democracy's newest forum is being decided. If a few mega media giants own the content and control the delivery of radio, television, telephone services and the Internet, they'll make a killing and citizens will pay for it. In this clip from the upcoming PBS documentary "The Net at Risk" from Bill Moyers, airing on October 18 (check local listings), reporter Rick Karr looks at the issue of "net neutrality"- rules that the FCC eliminated, which allowed every American and every company equal access to the Internet.
