Intoxicating and vivacious! Eileen Cruz, a Latina whose voice empowers her as one of the most talented latin artists, is on the rise. Her collaboration in the movie Soul Plane allowed this young artist to show her vocal skills on the big screen. The movie features a big ensemble cast of comedians and musical artists and rappers including Snoop Dogg, Method Man, Tom Arnold, Mo'Nique and countless other talented hip-hop and R & B stars. None other than the sultry singer Eileen Cruz performs the movie's spoof song "Survivor", a parody of the song by Destiny's Child.
Born in Hollis Queens, New York, Cruz, has been working musically for many years. While in high school she began doing background vocals for various groups and contributed her talents in the church choir. She was featured on the track "Ol Skool Games" of the Ghetto Concepts self titled album in 1998. Ghetto Concepts, a Canadian rap group, is also responsible for producing the parody song "Survivor" in the movie Soul Plane.
Cruz does not limit her growth as an artist. Her voice radiates in English just as vibrantly as it does Spanish and Italian. As a multi-lingual artist, Cruz sang on stage with distunguished artists such as Brenda K Starr and Frankie Negron. In 2003, Cruz worked alongside Latin sensation Paulina Rubio in the studio with producer Danny P.
The Latin beauty has worked with Fat Joe, BReal, Danny P., performed vocal editing for Mariah Carey, and background vocals for the lovely Joss Stone on her debut album. Cruz has gotten radio play with her song "In Da Mood 2Nite" spun by DJ Tony Touch on Power 105.1, one of New York City's premier radio stations. She has also received exposure on a national and international level with DJ Frankie Needles mixing her songs on the primetime live music television show "The Roof".
Proving herself as a Latin diva and perfecting her stage presence, Cruz is not only a studio recording artist but a live performer as well. To keep her vocal "chops" up, Cruz sings at events, accompanied by a 12 piece band with Susan DeBois Entertainment as well as other entertainment companies in Los Angeles. When she performs, she is the forefront that leads the band.
"It has been a blessing to work with professional vocalists that have been in the business for over 20 years that have toured with legendary artists and who have inspired me to dig deep and let go, to embrace every song with emotion," says Cruz.
Her inspirations are close to home, with an uncle, known as "El Topo", who is a famous political singer of her beloved Puerto Rico. Other artists who have influenced Cruz include Teena Marie, Donna Sommers, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Joss Stone, Natalie Cole, Etta James, Billie Holiday.
With her voice as her tool, her goal is to inspire both young and old in a positive way. Cruz's humanitarian efforts were displayed at Camp Vida, a camp for kids and families living with HIV where she performed her feature song with Ghetto Concept. In 2003 she was selected to go on the USO Tour to perform for U.S. soldiers stationed in South Korea & Japan. She most recently performed on Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, Nov. 10, 2007. "What and incredible time. " I'd like to thank Kadena Air Base for showing me such respect and support for what I do. It was a pleasure entertaining you all. You guys are truly heroes and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. God Bless You ALL... I had forgotten to mention the heroes that are often forgotten, the wives. I love you guys! : )"
