Since 1990, Hawaii added 92,450 workers

Hawaii's labor force increased by 92,450 workers from 1990 to 2006 to total 643,450, according to a report from the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism released Monday.
The report, which highlights county statistics on business, social and economic trends from 1990 to 2006, said the labor force grew about 1 percent each year. Honolulu County experienced the slowest growth at 0.6 percent a year while Hawaii County grew the fastest at 2.3 percent per year, followed by Maui at 1.9 percent and Kauai County at 1.4 percent.
Meanwhile, there was an increase of 85,550 wage and salary jobs statewide during the 16-year period.
The statewide average wage of private employees increased at an annual rate of 3 percent. In 2006, the average wage of private employees was $35,901.
