Travellers up in arms as Labuan ferry operator halts services due to technical issues

LABUAN: Juta Bonus Sdn Bhd, one of Labuan's two ferry operators serving the Labuan-Menumbok-Labuan route, halted its operations on Thursday, throwing Christmas and year-end school holiday travellers’ plans into disarray.

A notice issued on Dec 28 by the operator's ticketing management company, Binabalu Sdn Bhd, via its official Facebook page, cited unforeseen technical issues affecting its two ferries - Galaxy and Blue Ocean - as the reason for the abrupt cessation of services.

It, however, did not state when the two ferries will resume operations.

With hundreds of stranded travellers trying to get refunds or reschedule their trips, the situation at the Menumbok ferry terminal was tense and chaotic as frustrations ran high, with some taking to social media to vent their anger and voice their grievances.

The ticketing management company urged affected passengers to go to the counter to get a refund or submit a photograph of their ticket as proof for an online refund via WhatsApp at 016-8189040.

With the temporary suspension of Galaxy and Blue Ocean, only four ferries - Kimanis 1, Putrajaya 1, Goodwill Star and Joystar - are currently in service. These four ferries are operated by Labuan Mainland Link Sdn Bhd. - Bernama
