CNN: 'Homosexuality, Is It A Problem In Need Of A Cure?' (VIDEO)

In the context of a California Assemblywoman trying to repeal a 1950s law that obligated doctors to examine "the causes and cures of homosexuality," CNN ran a segment on whether homosexuality is a "problem in need of a cure."

Anchor Kyra Phillips opened by saying, "Homosexuality, is it a problem in need of a cure? Grabs your attention, doesn't it." Well, maybe, but it really shouldn't. The idea that homosexuality can in some way be cured has its roots in reactionary notions that it was a disorder or disease, and has been thoroughly debunked. Indeed, it can take a significant toll on a person's life. (View a powerful documentary on this here.)

Arguing against the Assemblywoman is Richard Cohen, a psychotherapist and so-called "ex-gay." As Think Progress notes, Cohen

has been kicked out of the The American Counseling Association and currently operates without any professional license or accreditation. His views on homosexuality have been discredited by every established medical organization and his ideas about gays are apparently only taken seriously by CNN bookers and producers.
