Lakeshore Foundation co-hosting film on wounded Iraq war vets who become paralympic athletes

A film about four U.S. service members who rebounded from severe war wounds to successfully train and compete in the 2008 Paralympic Games is coming to WorkPlay on Feb 16.

Lakeshore Foundation, where two of the veterans trained, is hosting the screening of "Warrior Champions: From Baghdad to Beijing," along with the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Tickets are $10 and the film will be shown at 6:30 p.m. following a 5:30 p.m. reception.

The film focuses on veterans Kortney Clemons, Scott Winkler, Melissa Stockwell and Carlos Leon, each of whom was severely wounded while serving in Iraq. The four overcame paralysis or loss of limbs to compete at the Paralympic Games in Beijing, and Winkler and Leon trained at Lakeshore.

Proceeds from the screening will go to Lakeshore, and "help severely injured military personnel as they return from active duty," a foundation press release states.
