The mega mobility camp for the rehabilitation of 25,000 physically challenged organized by the Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust at Palitana with world wide support was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi on December 23, 2009.
The project is a step towards making Bhavnagar district free of any disabled awaiting rehabilitation. It is said to be the largest of its kind in the world, runs till January 9, 2010. RNCT is promoted and managed by Mr. Mahendra G. Mehta and Mrs. Asha M. Mehta.
Speaking on the occasion, Modi said that he was indeed fortunate to have inaugurated such a humanitarian project for the poorest of the poor on the 3000th day of his office and that the care of the disabled was a responsibility of both society and the state.
During his visit the CM gave away wheelchairs, tricycles, calipers and Jaipur foot to a few selected patients. The Jaipur foot prosthetic fitted on 2 ½ year old Vinit was indeed an eye opener.
The RNCT has been conducting such relief camps all over the country and abroad for the last many years. It is also engaged in other welfare and rehabilitation projects.
