A man has been killed on a railway crossing in Nottinghamshire.
British Transport Police said the pedestrian was hit by a train at the Barnby Lane level crossing near the village of Claypole, south of Newark.
The accident at about 1430 GMT closed the East Coast Main Line, with some services delayed by up to five hours.
GNER said the train involved was its 1310 service between London and Leeds. No passengers were injured in the accident.
Warning lights
A spokesman said the driver of the train was taken off duty after the incident.
"It is tragic, but unfortunately these things happen," he added.
Villagers said there are three level crossings in the area which all have barriers and warning lights.
Robert Prabucki, chairman of Claypole Parish Council, said the crossing at Barnby Lane is sometimes used by local people walking dogs.
