Multimedia Utility of the Year

Another poll where many of the nominees are admittedly not directly comparable. CD/DVD authoring tools have been removed this year.

XBMC is indeed the absolute undisputed champion. I could never have the twin media centre setup I now have without it.

Was not sure between xbmc or myth, but due to the amazing easy of use and set up of xbmc it has to be a winner. iplayer and youtube plugins are still working amazingly well on my old xbox!

k3b should be disallowed anyway until such point as it actually works properly without coastering everything it touches.

K3b is only a front end for a heap of different programmes, as far as im aware. So i would have thought that if there is a problem with it, then it would have something to do with whatever back end process it is using for what ever task you are trying? I cant say i have had any issues with it at all. But im sure there is another time and place for this.

Indeed.. but FYI the problem is when GUI app fails, if you repeat the write without k3b with just the command line k3b says it used, it works.

As you say, 'nuff said.

digiKam - it really shines and this year were some significant steps: 1.0 version, Windows version, Qt4 port; in its field it really has no comparison in FOSS world. Problem is it doesn't really belong to Multimedia category although you can manage and play videos with it

Without gtkpod, and related tools, I never would have been able to use my ipod all those years ago. It still gets my vote today because of that. Even though I love most of the utilities posted here

Agreed. It is an image utility not a multimedia utility.

Those are all in their respective categories (such as Video Authoring Application of the Year, Video Media Player Application of the Year, etc.).
