We have had some fun Building a Better World so far this summer here at RML, and summer isn't over yet! If you didn't sign up for Summer Reading, you can sign up, record all the books you have read since June 23 and help us build the great wobbly bridge across the Children's Room. We still have openings in our Act Up! Readers's Theater program for aspiring actors age seven and older which runs from July 31 through August 4. We meet every morning at 9:30 am and put on a show Friday, August 4, at 10:30 am. If you are able, please come and enjoy the show because actors need an audience! There will be another Teddy Bear Sleepover on Monday, August 7, at 6:30 pm. Register now for a fun evening storytime and leave your bear to camp out overnight at the library. In the past, the bears have been pretty wild when left unsupervised at the library! On Tuesday, August 8, at 10 am, bears can be picked up and we'll have a beary good breakfast. Tuesday, August 15, from 10 am to noon, 4H bunnies and their friends will be visiting. Stop by and ask questions and chat with these knowledgeable young people and pat their cute critters. The deadline for helping with the bridge and picking up certificates and award books is Saturday, August 19. Many thanks to the Friends of RML for all the support for our summer fun!

There isn't anything planned for August, but we do have a program in September. We will hold a free “Bead a Bracelet” workshop on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 7 to 8 pm. This class is limited so registration is required. Sign up at Reference Desk, call the library or email mholmes@sailsinc.org.

Join a Book Discussion Group! Or the North Needlers!
Did you know that several research studies have shown a strong correlation between social interaction and health and well-being among older adults and have suggested that social isolation may have significant adverse effects for older adults. (And probably not so old adults as well.) The library offers a great opportunity for social interaction in our two book discussion groups. While we spend most of the time talking about books, we also talk about movies, food and life in general. The same is true of the knitting group, the North Needlers. Our book discussion groups meet on the 2nd Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 pm and another on the 4th Monday at 6 pm. The North Needlers meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month during the "school year" and the 2nd and 4th Mondays during the summer. The September books for our Adult Book Discussion will be ready for pick up in August. The titles are “Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles (book discussion on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 1:30 pm) and “My Name is Lucy Barton” by Elizabeth Strout (book discussion on Monday, Sept. 25, at 6 pm.)

Join our Books in Bloom Display coming in October
In October, the Library will be holding a “Books in Bloom” display. Staff and the Angle Tree Garden Club will be displaying floral arrangements that represent different books such as “The Language of Flowers” and “The Secret Garden.” If any local residents are interested in participating by creating a book/arrangement, he or she should talk to Maggie Holmes (508-699-0122 or mholmes@sailsinc.org) to find out more about the project. There is room for about 25 displays throughout the library and we are creating a Pinterest Page of book covers featuring flowers.

Partial Eclipse Coming August 21!
The August 21 Eclipse is much anticipated. In our area, we will have a partial eclipse. Definitely DO NOT watch the eclipse with your eyes during the passage. NASA has even been sending out notices about how to tell what Eclipse Eyeglasses are safe: Look for the ISO Icon 12312-2 by American Paper Optics, Rainbow Symphony, Thousand Oaks Optical or TSE 17.
