If you like masterfully written books with characters you care about and, in addition, like books with gay characters, you must read The Phoenix by Ruth Sims!. Even if you don't normally like historical fiction, you'll like this book. I haven't read many books in which the secondary characters are almost as interesting as the protagonists, but it's true in this case, and the protagonists are wonderful.
