A randy couple were caught having sex on top of a SHEEP statue in the middle of a town centre in New Zealand.

The brazen pair were spotted by passersby while in the throes of passion in Dunedin city centre, on the South Island, at 1am on Saturday.

Even a carload of cheering youngsters couldn't put them off - as the man just waved back at them and the couple carried on.

But if the couple were caught by police, they could face up to two years in prison for their racy escapade.

The vision failed to amuse police when it landed online, prompting calls for the public to report offensive behaviour instead of just filming it.

The 23-year-old man who captured the footage said: "We were driving around when one of the girls in our car just burst out laughing.

"They were having sex on the sheep. I reckon it was a dare or something. I remember thinking 'what a legend'."

"I've never seen anything like it.

"One of my friends put it online and everyone was having a laugh, apart from my mum. She didn't like it."

A spokesperson from New Zealand Police said they were not investigating the footage as they have not yet received any complaints.

"Police encourage anyone who witnesses offensive behaviour to report it to their local police," the spokesperson said.

"We take all reports of this nature seriously, and investigate appropriately."
