These ratings are my own assessments. If you are a beginner, start with straight-forward builds that require minimal glueing.

LevelNotes
6
One PieceNo glue required
7
Basic
One to two pieces to glue on, usually arms
8
Easy
Six pieces or less, no small parts
9
Moderate
Ten(ish) pieces or less. May have small parts; socketless gluing jobs including large missile bay doors
10
Difficult
Over ten(ish) pieces, multiple small parts, difficult glues like open missile bay doors or hard-to-position pieces
11
Expert
Most complex builds. Other tools like a file, pin vice, puddy, etc strongly recommended
12
13
Note that a hobby glue is all that is really 100% required for assembly, but I *strongly* recommend the following items:
14
*X-acto or other hobby knife
15
*for glue, I recommend Loctite superglues. The Ultra Control liquid and gel are excellent for either small bonds or if you have a heavy hand like me and overglue. The professional liquid is also good.
16
17
And the following for minis past the moderate level:
18
*Pin vice (basically a hand-operated drill with a chuck for various sizes of small drill bits). For most holes I drill, the 1/16" bit found in most drill sets is adequate. You may need a smaller bit if you want to add antennae or other small details
19
*A small and large metal file
20
*Putty for holding pieces in place while the glue dries
