Gailey: Bills interested in a veteran QB

Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey said today that he’s interested in acquiring a veteran quarterback.

“This is a quarterback-driven league at this point,” Gailey said. “It hasn’t always been that way, but it seems to have become more so in the last decade or so. You have to have a quality player there. It does not have to be a big-name player. You just have to have quality production. That’s the decision you’re trying to make.”

Tim Graham of ESPN.com reports that Gailey acknowledged the rumors that the Bills are interested in trading for a quarterback, including possibly acquiring Michael Vick in a trade with the Eagles. But Gailey said he hasn’t finished evaluating the three quarterbacks he inherited, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Trent Edwards and Brian Brohm.

“The staff got together completely yesterday,” Gailey said. “We’ve been spending the last day and a half going through the evaluation process. I’ve looked at them quite a bit but I want the rest of the offensive staff to look at quarterbacks and let’s get a good evaluation of where we think we are today and where we need to be. . . . Before we get to the first day of free agency we’ll have a good idea of where we need to be.”
