Short Description

This session will provide an overview of 2017 ILA Lifetime Achievement Award winner James R. Meindl’s research and his lifetime impact on the leadership field, particularly highlighting the romance of leadership, follower-centered approaches, social constructionist and attributional theories of leadership, and social contagion processes in leader-follower dynamics. Panelists and attendees will discuss how Meindl’s work has influenced their own research and teaching in leadership.

Detailed Abstract

This session will provide an overview of Meindl’s research and his impact on the leadership field. We will take the opportunity to explore the relevance of his contributions to contemporary leadership research and practice. Including input from panelists, contributors, and audience members, we will cover the legacy of many of Meindl’s contributions: The Romance of Leadership, follower-centered approaches, social constructionist and attributional theories of leadership, and social contagion processes in leader-follower dynamics. We would like the audience to actively contribute and talk about how Meindl's work has influenced their own research and teaching in leadership.

In addition to the panel and the audience, the following researchers from all over the world will be submitting content regarding Jim’s impact on their lives and how his work has influenced their own research and teaching:
