Peace

“To be happy, to be peaceful, to be useful, that is my religion. I see God as peace. God is all peaceful. God is all serenity. That peace is to be felt. It is to be experienced within oneself. Without peace in the mind, we can’t bring peace to the world outside.

God bless you. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.    —Sri Swami Satchidananda

September 11th: A Reminder to Find the Oneness

In a talk from the mid-1970s, Swami Satchidananda addresses an issue that has never had more relevance in today’s world, and especially as we approach the anniversary of 9/11: How can we find our oneness? How do we stop fighting in the name of religion or country or race? If we don’t find what unites us, we fight about our differences. He explains how to find the unity within our diversity: our spiritual oneness.

In response to the recent events in their hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia, Dave Matthews Band will host a free evening of music and unity. The concert will also feature Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton, Ariana Grande, The Roots, Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes, Cage the Elephant, and other special guests. (Dave Matthews bass player, Stefan Krishna Lessard and his family lived in Yogaville for a number of years and Krishna attended the Yogaville Vidyalayam.)

Yoga for Diabetes
By Rachel Zinman

In her new book, Yoga for Diabetes: How to Manage Your Health with Yoga and Ayurveda, Yoga teacher Rachel Zinman presents a highly motivational and personalized guide that will enable readers to incorporate Yoga into their daily diabetes management plan. Rachel was diagnosed with diabetes in 2008. In this article, she shares her journey and what she’s learned about living and thriving with diabetes. She also includes an overview of asanas that are especially useful in managing diabetes.
The first time I tried Yoga, I was 17. I didn’t know anything about Yoga but I liked the way it made my body feel, light and free. Yoga also pushed my body to its limits, I loved the challenge but at the same time there were some red flags. My persistent practice led to a radical detoxification. It felt like everything I had poured into my young body both physically and emotionally was being scrubbed clean. Every time I mastered a pose I’d have some sort of reaction. I didn’t know it at the time but that was the start of my journey with diabetes.

Highlights from the Integral Yoga European Reunion 2017

This year's a biannual gathering of Integral Yoga teachers from around the globe was held in Finland, organized and staffed by Sari, Kari, and the Integral Yoga Finland team. Presenter/participants from the US included Swami Karunananda, Swami Ramananda, Swami  Sarvananda, and Rev. Rudra Swartz. Nalanie Chellaram, Parvati Faini, Heike Mayer, Luckshmi Cannon, were among the European presenters. As Nalanie noted: "Finland is a must if you haven't been. The forests are stunning and the air so clean. One truly feels 'One with Nature' as the Reunion was named."  Thank you to Les Ananda Roberts for this wonderful video presentation!

The Self-Realization Fellowship announced this week that Brother Chidananda has been elected its president and spiritual head, succeeding Sri Mrinalini Mata, who served in this position from January 2011 until her passing last month. Sri Mrinalini Mata had succeeded Sri Daya Mata. In Integral Yoga Magazine's Winter 2014, we had the honor of interviewing Brother Chidananda on the topic of "Manifesting Divine Consciousness." Brother Chidananda had worked very closely with Sri Mrinalini Mata. We wish him all success in carrying forward the legacy of  Paramahansa Yogananda.
Manifesting Divine Consciousness
An Interview with Brother Chidananda

Integral Yoga Magazine: Would you share something about your personal journey?
Brother Chidananda: As a teenager, when I first saw a book on Yoga somehow that word awakened a desire in me to learn more. The typical goals and ambitions of material life didn’t really speak to me. I hoped there was something more to life. The turning point came when I read
Autobiography of a Yogi. . . .Autobiography spoke to me on a very deep level. It wasn’t only what the book said, but the spiritual presence I felt behind the words. There is a photo of Paramahansaji taken one hour before he left the body; it is called “the last smile.” I felt a divinity pouring out of the photo; and found myself thinking, “Anyone who can radiate that kind of consciousness just from a picture is the real deal.” So, I enrolled for the course of teachings.  MORE

Therapeutic Yoga with Arturo Peal & Cheri Clampett

There's still time to enroll in this wonderful training, which is being offered in October at the Integral Yoga Institute of New York. If you can't take this current training (Level I & Level II are being offered), they'll offer it again in 2018 (and you can find other locations for future trainings here.) Both Therapeutic Yoga Trainings Level I & II are approved by IAYT and are part of the Integral Yoga core curriculum for the 800 hour certification for Yoga Therapists. The program also offers continuing education credit for registered nurses and is a great training for other health-care professionals such as doctors, PT's, OT's, and acupuncturists. This video is a testimonial by a physician who graduated from the program.

Inside Yogaville

This past week marked the beginning of "Journey on the James," a 4-day odyssey by kayak & canoe from Yogaville to Richmond, via the James River. The participants hope to raise awareness about the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline, which threatens central Virginia's pristine land and waterways. Swami Dayananda (director of Y.E.S.) invoked the divine and the spirit of the river with an arati and prayers, seeking blessings for the boaters.
