Holy Family School Hosts Bishops
Lawndale ministry serves 500 students with Episcopal support

Bishops Miller and Lee with Holy Family's Chaplain Leslie Hunter
On October 4, Bishop Lee joined Bishop Wayne Miller of the ELCA (Lutheran) Metro Chicago Synod for the annual Bishop's Chapel at Holy Family School.

The school, founded as Holy Family Lutheran School in 1985, was begun to offer families an alternative to under-performing public schools in Cabrini Green. In 2008, the K-8 school and its companion after-school program moved to a campus in North Lawndale, and in 2010, merged with St. Gregory Episcopal School to become Holy Family School.

Today, Holy Family Ministries serves more than 500 children and youth through a preschool, the K-8 school, after-school and summer programs, and a leadership program for teens and young adults called The Peace Exchange. The programs are supported through state and local public funds as well as by private donors, corporations and foundations including Episcopal Charities and Community Services, and faith communities including a dozen congregations in the Diocese of Chicago.

Holy Family students teach Bishops Miller and Lee the motions to one of the school's regular chapel songs.
