The 180th Annual Convention of the Diocese of Chicago will be held Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18 at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center in Lombard.
Convention is the annual business meeting of the diocese, during which we elect leaders, consider resolutions and hear reports from across the diocese and the wider church. More than 500 people attend convention each year.
Voting participants at convention include the clergy of the diocese and lay representatives elected from each congregation. The gathering also includes ex-officio members, who are entitled to seat and voice and many visitors. Learn more.

Bishop Lee to Keynote Convention
Convention theme is "Transformational Leadership"
Bishop Lee will be the keynote speaker at this year's diocesan convention, which takes the theme of "Transformational Leadership."
"The kind of leadership I am talking about is a question of formation and self-understanding," said Lee. "It's a stance. The thing I am looking for over and over again is the highest level of emotional intelligence I can find. You can learn all the tools--here's the latest and greatest management technique, and that is all available--but if you don't have the ability to make and tend effective relationships, so what? The heart of leadership in the church and everywhere else is the ability to make and keep productive rich relationships."

The Rev. Victor H. Conrado Named Associate for Ministries
Bishop Lee has called the Rev. Victor H. Conrado as associate for ministries following a national search led by the Rev. Andrea Mysen that began in March. Conrado replaces Mysen, who was promoted to be director of ministries in February.
Conrado is currently associate rector at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn, where he has served since 2011 when he joined that parish as assistant rector for Spanish-language ministries. He was received into the Episcopal Church in 2011 after having served as a Roman Catholic missionary priest in Kenya since 2001.
"Whether in Africa or Chicago, Victor is gifted in developing leaders for strong congregations," said Bishop Lee. "As we seek to focus even more clearly on the vitality of congregations in many contexts across the diocese, I can't think of a better person to join our team than Victor." Read more.

Fierce Conversations at the Nicholas CenterTraining offered September 24-27 and April 22-25, 2018
Fierce Conversations training teaches people how to have vital conversations that interrogate reality, provoke learning, resolve tough challenges and enrich relationships. "While no single conversation is guaranteed to change the trajectory of a career, a congregation, a relationship, or a life...any single conversation can," says Bishop Lee.
These workshops will provide sixteen hours of experiential training about how to have more productive conversations. The skills learned will be immediately applicable to one's personal and professional life. As an accredited provider for Fierce, Inc. in the Episcopal Church, Courtney Reid, director of operations and Nicholas Center for the Diocese of Chicago, has led many Fierce trainings in a variety of church and diocesan contexts.
