Principal Planner

Location:  Basildon, England


Our world leading client based in Basildon is currently looking for a Principal Planner to join them on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will implement the Planning and the Risk management process, support Project Managers during executions of divisional bids and programmes, as well as support the growth of the Homeland Security & Critical National Infrastructure Protection Line of Business.

You will be responsible for Project Controls Management within Security & Information Systems Division for detailed planning packages in accordance with the project's work breakdown structure. This primarily includes project planning & monitoring and reports of schedule variances, risks, earned value and costs, progress measurement analysis with generation of s-curves, manpower histograms, risk distribution graphs and baseline schedules in Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6.

Key Responsibility Areas
• Creating and updating Project Schedules of the Integrated Project Plan for execution (both pre and post contract).
• Clear and regular communication on inputs/outputs of Schedule updates to project stakeholders in UK and at International sites.
• Creating and updating performance management systems (such as Earned Value, Progress Measurement systems, etc.). This includes generation of Progress S-Curve for Actual v Planned with early, late & mean dates.
• Resource levelling of the project schedule to provide realistic manpower/forward load of resources allocated on projects.
• Execution of the Risk management process, including creation and regular updates of risk & opportunity registers, as well as analysis and control of costs and schedule.
• Compilation of monthly metrics/KPIs and Project Performance Data at project, programme and portfolio levels.
• Adherence to planning standards across the integrated plan work packages, while being able to carry out baseline project plan during bids and following Contract Acceptance.
• Control of release status of execution project plans and Work Packages, and support of various process improvement initiatives
• Consolidation of project costs and estimates to completion. Responsible for identification of cost and / or schedule reduction opportunities
• Management of Sales Orders and Contracts on SAP (cost reports, invoicing, etc.) as well as Project Management support in producing pricing models during bids.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge
• Demonstrable competence in the development and continuous monitoring of complex Project Schedules (1000 tasks and beyond) at least in Microsoft Project
• The ability to learn to understand the processes and problems related to product delivery and contract terms and conditions
• Ability to build and maintain productive relationships across all stakeholders, and able to represent the company in customer facing activities.
• Demonstrable competence in the development of Risk Register and facilitation of risk brainstorming sessions as well as regular reviews with IPT members (PMs, Engineering, Procurement, etc.)
• The ability to communicate clearly at all levels within the company and with customers, being able to articulate ideas in a clear and persuasive manner.
• The ability to maintain accurate and up to date status information, and have commercial and financial awareness.
• A very good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and be well organised with the ability to prioritise and multi-task.
• The ability to develop solid working relationships with various stakeholders within the business and across the other UK/international sites, including Asia.
• High flexibility in working long hours when required and international travelling (Travel UK/Asia might be required).
