Connecticut: Bill to Ban Hunting Along Quinnipiac River To Be Heard

On March 1st, the Connecticut state Joint Committee on Environment will be hearing Senate Bill 245, which would make the unprecedented move of legislatively banning hunting along the Quinnipiac River in New Haven.  Please contact the committee and urge them to OPPOSE SB 245.  Click the “Take Action” button to contact committee members.

Currently, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) uses an open and transparent regulatory process to open and close lands and waters to hunting.  Senate Bill 245 would subvert that existing process done by wildlife management experts who base their decisions on sound science and instead have it done by legislators on a political whim.  Land access is reported as the biggest barrier to hunter recruitment and retention, and such an action would negatively affect Connecticut’s hunting heritage.

Again, please click the “Take Action” button to urge the committee to OPPOSE SB 245 and refer all fish and wildlife management decisions to the proven existing mechanism within DEEP.
