Buttermore Adds Baumert, O'Connor To Volleyball Staff

OMAHA, Neb. – Head coach Matt Buttermore announced the addition of Maggie Baumert and Kelly O'Connor as assistant coaches to complete his volleyball staff for the upcoming 2019 season.

Baumert was most recently an assistant coach at Drake University, while O'Connor joins the Mavericks after serving as the video coordinator at Nebraska.

"I'm excited to have both Kelly and Maggie join our program," said Buttermore. "Both are hardworking and high-character individuals who have worked with excellent coaches at the Division I level. I look forward working with them and seeing the impact they will have on our student-athletes."

In her year with the Bulldogs, Baumert worked primarily with the team's setters and served as recruiting coordinator. A native of Elkhorn, Neb., the former Creighton standout spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons as an assistant at Central Michigan. Baumert joined the CMU program as a volunteer assistant coach in August 2016 and was promoted to full-time assistant coach the following season.

At CMU, Baumert worked with the setters and the team's offensive systems. She began her coaching career working camps at her alma mater and for three years with Volleyball Club Nebraska.

As a student-athlete at CU, Baumert was a setter and helped lead the Bluejays to BIG EAST regular-season and tournament championships in 2014 and 2015. She was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and the league all-tournament squad in 2015 when the Bluejays advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Baumert earned her bachelor of science in psychology from Creighton in 2016 and her master's in sports administration from Central Michigan in 2018.

O'Connor wrapped up her second season as the Nebraska volleyball video coordinator in 2018. Before coming to NU, O'Connor was a graduate assistant for two seasons at Hastings College, helping the Broncos win the 2016 NAIA national title.

She played two seasons at Dickinson State in North Dakota, where she was a two-year starter and tied the school record for career triple-doubles. She began her collegiate career at Great Falls College in Montana and later was a student assistant at Dickinson State in 2014.

O'Connor also coached club volleyball for the Montana Elite Juniors. She earned her bachelor's degree in math education with a minor in biology in 2015 from Dickinson State.

Omaha continues its play in spring competition with a Saturday, April 13 tournament at Sapp Fieldhouse, welcoming South Dakota, South Dakota State, Drake and UMKC. Matches begin at 10 a.m.
