Facebook users: Try the new WorldCat application

A free WorldCat application for the Facebook social networking Web site is now available. The application lets you search the collections of WorldCat libraries and monitor favorite WorldCat lists—your own lists, or those created by other users—right from your personalized Facebook pages.

Once installed, WorldCat library searching is easily accessed from your list of applications beneath the Facebook search box.

The application includes a Home screen with WorldCat search box, as well as quick links to WorldCat searches based on personal interests listed in your Facebook profile. The application also includes tabbed access to:

  • a built-in advanced WorldCat search
  • a "Something to Read" panel that displays books recently added to other users' WorldCat lists
  • a panel that allows you to invite other Facebook friends to install WorldCat

On your Facebook profile page, the application adds a custom Facebook "box" with basic WorldCat search. You can expand or collapse the box's visibility, and reposition it to a preferred location by dragging its title bar.

Install it now

Visit the WorldCat application page (or search Facebook for "WorldCat") after you have logged in to your Facebook account.

• Add a photo to your WorldCat profile

Your WorldCat profile page, which lets you share information about yourself such as your occupation, interests and links to personal Web pages, now lets you add a picture. Log into your WorldCat account and select Edit My Profile from the "My WorldCat" dropdown menu. (Please upload only those images you have the right to distribute and that are in line with WorldCat's Terms and Conditions of Use.)

• Check out the WorldCat Blog

The new WorldCat Blog is co-authored by seven people who work behind the scenes to bring WorldCat to the Web. Regular posts focus on ways you can use the site and your local WorldCat library to get the information you need. The authors will also drop hints about upcoming site features. Stop by and tell us what you think!

• WorldCat.org home page sports a new look

The redesigned WorldCat.org home page now lets you log in to your WorldCat account directly from the home page, and features tabbed "scope" searching so you can easily limit a search to one of several popular formats: books, DVDs, CDs and articles. (Many more search limiting options are always available to you through WorldCat advanced search.)
