Arena: IAR's Ground Gym (Working Name)
Field Type: Ground
Complexity: Intense
Format: All

Restrictions: No Natural Grass, Only Sandstorm & Clear weather permitted, Sky Drop, Bounce & Fly do not gain enough altitude to evade, Poorly-lit Indoor arena

Description: Just a Tenative. In the works & is now being battle-tested to see if this arena would be good enough for ASB Gym Administration standards without being too good, ahead of my Job as Ground Type Gym Leader.

Mechanics:

  • Mud patches around the arena have enough water to be considered usable as an external Water Source.
    • However, all the mud means that such attacks become Ground Type moves.
    • These attacks can still be nullified by Storm Drain.
    • Any Pokemon hiding in Mud Patches through the use of moves like Dive can also be affected by seismic moves at x2 Power.
  • Because of the humidity of the arena, any Water & Ice Type move used by any non-Ground Type Pokemon have their BAP reduced by 3 (Ground Types are used to such humidity).
    • This includes Water-Type moves converted into Ground Type moves due to needing a water source.
  • If two Pokemon on the same team use non-Single target move that has 0 Priority, AND a Pokemon with a speed stat in-between the fastest & the slowest users of the move in question uses a move with 0 priority, then that move in question will be treated as -1 priority attack for the action.

Now, which one of you wants to be a guinea pig & help test this for me? (Also, requesting a fast ref for this battle, thank you)
^Sure, why not? They're pretty fresh, but I got four mons to work with.

The Wanderer said:
Well, let's do this!

Lucario(*) [Rico] (Male)
"See, this is one of the laws of the universe. You know, Atoms make up all matter, gravity pulls things down, Rico'll tear you a new one, stuff like that."
A Lucario with a tattered scarf as red as the blood he spills. Having been in the wanderer's care as long as he can remember, Rico's fierce loyalty, hot head and even hotter blood have led to him to become something like the team's leader - and quite possibly the wanderer's mightiest pokemon.

Nature: Naughty (+1 atk, -1 SpD)
Type: Fighting/Steel
Fighting: Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions of throwing/grappling moves. Superior reaction time in close quarters.
Steel: Steel STAB; immune to Sandstorm, highly insusceptible to toxic attacks, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, can be magnetized. Superior senses in high-metal environments like construction sites or factories.

Abilities: Inner Focus, Steadfast, Justified (DW)
Inner Focus: (innate) When an opponent attempts to flinch this Pokemon, it stands firm and continues its attack. If it has another ability that would be activated by flinching, that ability activates.
Steadfast: (innate) If this Pokemon is flinched, it becomes aware of the speed difference and increases speed by one (1) stage to make up the difference. This speed boost is maintained at the end of each round.
Justified (DW, unlocked): (innate) This Pokemon's body reacts to dark energy, invigorating its passions. When hit by a Dark-type move, the Pokemon's attack will increase one (1) stage. A boost gained this way by another Pokemon's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts.

"<I hear that if you close your eyelids really hard, it makes your eyes sore.>"
Rico's little brother (their mother was a ditto), Seth is a bit of a foil to his Lucario sibling in demeanor and tactics alike. Although an utter space cadet, Seth's preference to support and incapacitation over brute force make him a valuable ally.

Nature: Bold (+1 Def, -1 Atk)
Type: Normal/Flying
Normal: Normal STAB; adapt comfortably to any surrounding after 3 actions. Able to use Outrage without losing focus.
Flying: Flying STAB; immunity to Ground attacks except under the effects of Smack Down and Gravity, even for ground-based flying Pokemon. Will always hit foes with Dig (except other Flying types) and Dive. Cannot be hit by Dive unless the attacking Pokemon has a size class greater than four (4). Immune to Spikes and Toxic Spikes. Enhanced aerial mobility. Superior senses in open air arenas.

Abilities: Serene Grace, Hustle, Super Luck (DW)
Serene Grace: (Innate) This Pokemon has a blessing which doubles the success chance of its attack’s secondary effects. (eg paralysis from Thunderbolt)
Hustle: (Can Be Activated) This Pokemon puts immense force and speed in its physical attacks, increasing the base damage of all its physical attacks by three (3), but the haste lowers their accuracy to 80% of normal.
Super Luck (DW, Unlocked): (Innate) This Pokemon’s natural skill increases its critical hit levels one stage above other Pokemon, making its normal moves inflict critical hits 12.5% of the time and its high critical hit moves inflict critical hits 25% of the time.

Cyclohm [Karamazov (From left head: Mitya, Alyosha and Ivan)] (Male)
*Ceaseless squabbling*
A Cyclohm the wanderer had caught shortly after his first battle hall challenge, along with Elaine the Scratchet. Each head has a personality of their own: Mitya is brash and courageous; Ivan is calm and logical; and the youngest head Alyosha is more or less the leader...well, when in combat, anyway. Although their teamwork in battle is peerless, when they aren't fighting someone else's pokemon, they're usually fighting each other.

Nature: Modest (+1 SpA, -1 Atk)
Type: Electric/Dragon
Electric: Electric STAB; 50% reduction in paralysis chance from other electrical attacks, perfect accuracy and 30% chance of Protect breaking Thunder during Rain. Superior senses in power plant environments.
Dragon: Dragon STAB; More in touch with legendary or special auras in arenas. Able to use Thrash without losing focus.

Abilities
: Shield Dust, Static, Overcoat (DW)
Shield Dust: (Innate) This pokemon has dust covering the outside of its body that prevents opponents secondary effects from taking place (eg burn from Flamethrower). It does not block direct status moves (such as Thunder Wave.)
Static: (Innate) This pokemon’s body is surrounded by an electric field that has a 30% chance of paralyzing opponents that use contact moves on this pokemon.
Overcoat (DW, Unlocked): (Innate) This Pokemon has a sturdy exterior that rebuffs the elements, making it immune to damage inflicted by bad weather. If the Pokemon is already immune to at least one (1) kind of weather by typing or a different ability, Overcoat reduces the Base Attack Power of all oncoming attacks by one (1).

A level-headed veteran and the head honcho among her old war buddies, Auroch finds herself questioning how some careless upstart like Rico could end up leading the wanderer's team. However, despite the occasional spat, the ambitious Zoroark hasn't seriously challenged Rico's status...yet...

Ability: Illusion
Illusion: (Innate) Whenever you send this Pokemon out, it can feign the appearance of another member on your squad. If this Pokemon is damaged by a direct attack, the Illusion will cease at the end of the round. Direct damage is any attack that does damage to the Pokemon's HP. Attacks that are evaded, blocked via Protect, or damage a Substitute are not considered direct damage. It will retain the typing and moveset of the Pokemon with Illusion. [Usage Note: PM the ref if you are sending out a Zorua or Zoroark with the info on Zorua/Zoroark and one of your squad members in a Switch=KO battle. Sand veil is essentially nullified by your own gravity, does not matter.
Gliscor switched out and there is no switchphase. I thought that was implied enough not to be stated.
I never said togekiss got overcoat protection, and Cyclohm does get no sandstorm damage due to overcoat.
The Light screen change is kinda nice, didn't know that happened.
All should be fixed

-"Because of the humidity of the arena, any Water & Ice Type move used by any non-Ground Type Pokemon have their BAP reduced by 3 (Ground Types are used to such humidity)."
-Gliscor has Rank 4 attack after Razor Fang, not 3
-Light Screen only reduces power of Special Attacks by 1/3rd of there value, as opposed to a flat 5
-Overcoat doesn't prevent Togekiss from taking damage from Sandstorm
-Because of Sandstorm, All attacks only have an 80% chance of hitting Gliscor, thanks to Sand Veil
-Switch=OK means Gliscor switches out at the end of the round, thanks to U-Turn, & without initiaing a switch phase.8)
-You forgot to apply the +3 BAP part of STAB to the Earthquakes

I'll hold off making actions until these are fixed, if at all.

Apologies for double posting, but now that everything's fixed, I'll issue actions, & for emphasis that I've issued actions, I'll start a new post here.

Thanks to U-Turn Capers switches out, & Sleast comes in!

Sleast @ Expert Belt

Now Sleast, Utilitand, time to pounce!

Sleast: Earth Power (Karamazov) > Earth Power (Karamazov) > Earth Power (Karamazov)
IF Karamazov uses Bide A1, AND Karamazov is still alive come your second action, THEN replace A2 with Substitute (15 HP)
IF Karamazov faints, THEN replace all remaining actions with Rock Tomb (Sethim)

IF Karamazov uses Bide A1, AND Karamazov is still alive at the end of A2, THEN replace A3 with Substitute (15 HP). This substitution supersedes all other subs.
(Once Only) IF Sethim uses Protect (Karamazov), THEN replace that action with Taunt (Sethim), (Do take note that transferred Protects have 0 Priority)
IF Karamazov faints, THEN replace all remaining actions with Low Sweep (Sethim)

Oh no! Attack of the Zoroark! What am I to do?

Sleast: Rock Tomb (Rico, aka Auroch in disguise) > Surf (Ground-Type Surf at that) > Brine (Sethim)

Utilitand: Light Screen > Dig (Sethim) > Dig (Sethim)

Okay we all figured out Illusion so I'm going to save us all some time and reveal Zoroark now. Also Quag's format is messy and near impossible to follow so while I think I got all the weather/effects/stats right do tell me if I missed something.

SAND (2 Rounds)
GRAVITY (3 Rounds)

This match was like an updating score ticker until now, but with a change of commentator comes full play by play coverage!

Utilitand kicks us off by quickly refreshing that Light Screen to protect he and his team mates from nasty Special attacks. Its a good thing too as Sethim and the frankly quite poorly disguised Auroch the Zoroark both fire off psychic bursts that trigger Fidgit's worst memories and hit right on a weakness. Man its a good thing he's a Prankster and got that screen up first. Sleast now acts to ensure that his mates speed advantage is on all moves this round with a Rock Tomb on the speedy trickster. What a great show of team work and while the damage may have been a secondary concern the Dark type's frail defences make even this weak attack look half decent.

With a fresh speed advantage Utilitand ducks underground as soon as he can. Clearly this act gets the better of The Wanderer and his Pokemon as both of them aim otherwise powerful attacks at the clearly untargetable Fidgit. Sleast punishes their mistake by Surfing some mud into the pair of them which between STAB and Sand Force hits quite hard despite the move being neutral. As swiftly as he disappeared Utilitand bursts forth from underground and crashes into Sethim.

Action 3 is largely a carbon copy of the middle of the round as Fidgit accepts the award for trolliest of Pokemon and once again survives by the skin of his teeth by avoiding another pair of Extrasensory assaults. Sleast shoots another jet of water at Sethim but as this one is from an internal source (eww backwash) it remains mud-less. The Brine does however contain an awful lot of salt which stings Togekiss' existing wounds. Utilitand once again emerges with his Dig attack at the Gravity effected Flying type and the move proves just enough to knock Sethim out of this match! IAR goes up 2-0 as it looks like the Mock Gym is off to a grand start.

SAND (1 Round)
GRAVITY (2 Rounds)

Setting up for the inevitable end, Random switches in his trusty Camerupt; Tormeldon. Fearing something horrible upcoming Auroch tries to trick the opponents with another Illusion, but unfortunately the move is all but useless. It does nothing to prevent Sleast and Tormeldon to unlease synchronised Earthquakes that hit both opponents quite hard. Even with a critical on Auroch to round it all out. Rico then finishes off with one hell of a Blast of Aura. Unforauntely with the screen still up the damage is quite muted and frankly a waste of energy.

Auroch tries his best to annoy Camerupt with moves that just might flinch him but an Extrasensory assault while Rico cools down fails to do so. In the mean time a pair of Earth Powers from the Ground types bring Rico down to the brink almost as soon as he hit the field.

As a last ditch attempt Auroch again attempts a flinch with a Dark Pulse... and just misses out. Rico's Aura Sphere fails to leave much of a dent and IAR finishes this off with yet another SynchroQuake. One might think we see a bit of that in the real gym battles...

That was a little bit of a lopsided affair...

GG The Wanderer. I wasn't supposed to crush you that badly...

Thanks for reffing Quagsires & deadfox, much appreciated.

Time to claim, & make some changes before officially launching the Ground Type Gym...

Yeah, maybe next time I'll have pokemon better suited to fight in this stage. GG, Random, and thanks for the reffage, guys.

Also, don't we get CC, too?
