The Talk: How to Educate Your Children About Islamic Sexual Health
According to recent research on the health and well-being of North American Muslims, Muslim youth do not “have a safe space in which to obtain [sexual] health information in a way that is mindful of their wide-ranging religious and cultural upbringing and values…The lack of open dialogue and education about sexual health in the Muslim community is directly correlated with negative health outcomes, sexual experimentation, sexual violence and marital challenges in the community.” (Nadiah Mohajir, HEART Women & Girls)
What role can parents play to ensure their children’s health, well-being and education when it comes to their bodies and sexual health? This session will give an overview for parents on how to talk about sexual health topics from a developmental and Islamic perspective.
Topics include physical growth, identity and peer groups, self-esteem, healthy relationships, and much more. Parents and future parents are all welcome!
