Scholarships and Graduate Assistantships

GVSU International Scholarship

All international undergraduate students on these visa types (E2, F1, H4, K2, L2, R2, TN and TD) who have been admitted to Grand Valley will receive a scholarship to cover the extra cost of being a non-Michigan resident. With this scholarship, you will pay the Michigan tuition rate. This award is valued at approximately $6,200 per academic year and it will automatically renew for up to 4 years.  All admitted undergraduate international students will receive this award and the scholarship is awarded after admission to Grand Valley.

International Merit Scholarship

The International Merit Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate international students who have demonstrated a record of academic success.  To be considered for this scholarship, students must apply for this scholarship by February 1.  This scholarship award is $2,500 and will automatically renew for up to four years.  Scholarship decisions are made by committee and are based on a review of the information in the scholarship application.  Students can combine the International Merit Scholarship and the GVSU International Scholarship.

The International Merit Scholarship is only available for students on a F1 visa starting in the Fall 2024 term. The application deadline for students starting in Fall 2024 has passed. Selected students will be notified.

MyScholarship Database

Once admitted, undergraduate students will have access to hundreds of scholarships. The majority of scholarship deadlines fall between February 15 and March 1. These scholarships vary and may be based on personal interests, academic performance, special talents, or major. Many of these scholarships are made possible through generous donations. Students may apply for these scholarships each year through myScholarships.

Off-Campus Scholarships

There are many opportunities pertaining to private scholarships, funds, and grants for international students. Additional scholarships opportunities can be found on the International Students website.

 

Graduate Assistantships

Highly qualified graduate students will be eligible for graduate assistantships.  These awards can provide up to full tuition and are awarded to students after admission.  Students will need to apply for graduate assistantships after admission.  These awards are merit based and will be awarded by the department after a thorough review process.
