Arctic Monkeys turn to hip-hop?

Are the Arctic Monkeys trying a different musical genre?

They've conquered the indie market, and now it seems the Arctic Monkeys are moving into rap.

The Leeds band have apparently talked to hip-hop star Dizzee Rascal about working with him on their next album, the follow up to their huge debut Whatever They Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.

The boys - Alex Turner, Matt Helders, Jamie Cook and Nick O'Malley - got chatting to the rapper at the Leeds and Reading festival this summer, reports The Sun.

"The Monkeys wanted to surprise people with the album. It was the lads' idea to see Dizzee in his studio to speak to him about working on a few tracks," a source told the paper.

"The band have always done whatever they wanted - the record company have been really good at giving them pretty much a free rein.

"If Alex thinks it will work then why not give it a go?"

The insider added: "From what I've heard so far the album is going to blow away all the critics."

It won't be the first time the band have dabbled in a more urban sound - frontman Alex penned some hip-hop tracks with former Monkey Glyn Jones when the group was just starting out.
