So today I took delivery of the above mentioned Sisley, who I have decided to name Engelbert after the last 3 letters of his numberplate (I always name my cars in this way). All is explained as to how he came to be in my possession from the above thread so I wont touch on that too much here but will say the seller is a very kind lady. She was understanding about the transport frustrations I had and was very honest about the condition of the car.

This first post is going to be very pic heavy by the way!! I got it and did a quick assessment (I will do a more in depth assessment tomorrow) but I am extremely pleased with the condition generally, it obviously will need work but I am prepared for this (hence the project log). It has every sisley extra apart from the grille badge and is missing two centrecaps and the horn push (I am not counting the compass in this), though I wasnt expecting there to be as much of the sisley trim etc as there is! I am in the process of compiling a list of required items too.

Required Items/work required

Side repeater indicator
Front part of Airbox assembly (or new clips)
two sisley centrecaps
Front grille sisley badge
Instrument surround (See photo)
possibly bonnet vent (there is a small crack in this but I actually dont think it matters too much)
Possibly new bonnet or just work to the bonnet
Rubber headlamp rear cover
Rubber boot seal
Refurbish wheels and new tyres
Sisley Horn Push
New Battery
Aerial
Wiring repairs (wiring next to battery at least)
Repair front seat fabric
Under bonnet screwdriver
wirebrushing and undersealing, possible welding at points
Front bullbars
rear bullbars Palio I havent forgotten about this, but will wait till funds are more available if thats cool?
Obviously a stripdown and recommissioning generally of the engine is required as it hasnt run in 4-5 years


The general condition is pretty good indeed, though some rust curing and prevention will obviously have to be done. But I gave it a quick clean and it has come up very nicely, I am struggling for things to say about it as I have so much swimming in my head at the moment with it, im overwhelmed, need to sleep to digest it all! I will let the pictures and videos do the talking (still need to upload videos)
Cameron - you've got a real find there. It looks very sound indeed, and great that it's in such good hands. Well done you (and well done the seller too). Will look forward to seeing progress but all looks very positive. (y)

Am intrigued by the computerised rust control unit!!

After a quick google it seems to be an idea borrowed from boats, however it apparently takes a lot of power to run and by the sounds of things may partially account for the electrical problems the previous owner was having. So I will be removing it.
 
Lucky you, looks mint for a blind purchase - and you got sunroof.

I feel very lucky today :) though I must stress that it wasnt quite a blind purchase, I received photos of it before I agreed to buy it, and I asked A LOT of questions of the seller who was very kind in answering them.

This will be a very fun resoration and I am very happy :)

I think so! I will look into it further before removing but considering many of the wires next to the battery (coming through the bulkhead) are frayed and broken I want to cut down on any unnecessary wiring before trying to repair the essential wiring! Seriously though I am so excited about this project.

All those bits will turn up over a few months I'd guess. Parcel shelf too? -I can't quite see it.
If Engelbert were mine I'd keep the RustBlock Premium 4 and maybe the stubby aerial too if it works, but lose the steering wheel cover.
I'd prioritise rust control on the rear under floor, cills, doors, wheel arches, rear panel, box sections and leaf spring front mounts. Oh and the roof rack.
Then get stuck into the mechanics.

Whatever you decide, its great to see another begin the journey back from the brink. Well done seller and Cameron. (And the transport company, eventually.)

oooo Talons brother! man nice find! looks like it wont take much given the mechanics are all sound.

add "check brakes" to the list too.. its likely that all the rears have seized up.. sigh..

i am very interested in this electronic rust repellent unit.. hmmm will have to look into that!

Thanks guys, the parcel shelf is missing, I also should have added the brakes to the list, was such a whirlwind last night I'm sure there's several things I've forgotten to write down!

The plan is to treat all the rust as priority then move onto the engine bay, the wiring thing is going to be difficult! I wasn't planning to make it a show car, although its tempting as it has real potential :)

The roof rack is actually quite solid, just needs a wire brush and painting! Though I have a plan for this which will be revealed at a later date :)
 
That looks a cracking buy! Id forgotten how respectable they look in green with the white wheels and the sisley script. Would look right at home next to a Range Rover at Chequers.

It looks like its had a caring owner in the past. Whats its history, why did it end up sitting for so long?

Basically the previous owner ran it from 2003 till 2009 when it developed an electrical fault which was causing electricals not to work properly and cutting out in traffic, it was parked up in 2009 and that pretty much takes us to now, but the lady cares about it a lot, I could tell that from our conversations. It has been a drive to italy at some point as well.

Wow! Looks even better than I'd imagined! Even the doors look ok :eek:
Can't wait to see it when you've finished, you've done great work in PTP so far bringing it back to standard so Engelbert is in good hands (y)

Here's a photo of it when it did the Italy trip years back, I just remembered the last owner had sent it to me last year

Electrical fault sounds like the ignition module - add it to your list as you'll need one at some point (believe me, you want one in stock!). :idea:

Thanks for the tip Palio! :)

I am thinking this is the case, though I am going to sort the frayed and broken wiring first as a matter of course :)
