A teenager was rushed to hospital yesterday after being hit in the face with a bottle at an Orange Order parade.

Witnesses said the girl, believed to be 13, was injured after being caught up in a fight between two gangs of youths in Glasgow Green. She was left soaked in blood from a wound on her forehead.

One witness, who asked not to be named, said: “There were hundreds of people in the park and there was a group of about 25 who started shouting at each other.

“They had been marching with the parade and were wearing scarfs and waving their flags.

“This big fight erupted and both sides were kicking and punching one another. Then I saw a young girl screaming – it was horrendous.”

Around 8000 people took part in the parade, which started at George Square and finished in Glasgow Green.

Last night, Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing but no one had been arrested over the incident.

Officers made 18 arrests for disorderly behaviour, drinking in public and other minor offences.

Police Scotland Chief Superintendent Andy Bates said: “I recognise it’s an unwelcome minority who
use the event as an excuse to drink and cause offence. My officers focused on them.”

Meanwhile, there were 10 arrests at yesterday’s parade in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.
